English: Group of girls waiting to board a train to take them south for recruit training, Brisbane, 1941.
Forty eight girls who enlisted for the Women's Auxiliary Australian Air Force (W. A. A. A. F) left Brisbane by mail train yesterday for Bankstown (NSW) to begin training. They were seen off by Squadron-Leader C. B. Ransom (left), State Recruiting Officer, who said 'They've forgotten glamour. They're looking forward to getting into Giggle Suits to begin their recruit training'. The girls have enlisted as clerks, wireless operators, storekeepers, mess orderlies, drivers, motor transport and nursing orderlies. (Description taken from: Courier-Mail, 13 October 1941, p. 3). |
