The Queensland Housing Commission and French contractors built 886 houses at Zillmere under the Imported Houses (Commonwealth Sponsored) Scheme. The Zillmere project, using labour recruited overseas, was the first estate to be built under the Scheme (Information taken from: Queensland. Housing Commission, Report of the Commissioner, 1952). This view includes a street and some of the non-Housing Commission homes at Zillmere, Brisbane, which can be compared with the Housing Commission homes in image numbers hch00003 and hch00004.
