n this church repose the remains of the rcKioides Ludlow and Broujilitonwho died at Vevey in exile (marblr tablet sot up in 16HS). The latterroad the sentence to King Charles 1. in ir.49. Ludlows house, which stoodut the E. end of the town, was removed to make way for an addition to theH6tel du Lac. A memorial tablet was erected in 1887 on the Quai Sina. The terrace on which the church stands coniinands a beautifulview of the head of the lake, with the month of the Rhone and theAlps of the Valais; to the right, the Dent dn Midi; to the left, the Donlde Morcles. — The bodies of the 68 Hritish i)risoncrs-of-war whodied in Switzerland and are now buried in 11 different cemeteriesaro to be inferred together in the (emetcrij of Vevey PI. P, C, 3). Adjoining Vevey on the S.E. is the little town of La Tour-de-Peilz (3480 inhab!; hotels, sec p. 279). The old castle on the lake,dating partly from the 13-1.ith cent., is private property. Tn themarket-place is the Liberty Fountain, by Courbet.
