d the golden clouds;and the scene becomes truly sublime as we watch thefaint, rosy sunset glimmer gradually climbing onesummit after another, and fading away till only one tipretains its tinge, thereby proving that it is the highestof the peaks, though seemingly it is not. There, too, the hotels were open in the middle ofApril, while of those on the shores of Tahoe only one hadopened its doors for the season, and the fire was burningall day long in our little inn at Tahoe City. At thesupper-table Nevada beef was neglected for the moresucculent lake-trout. They are delicious, especially thesilver trout: yet I saw a man at the next table committhe gastronomic atrocity of putting Worcestershire sauceon Tahoe silver trout. Then he called to the waiter-girl, a buxom, rosy-cheeke
