Nursing Work in Telephone Companies 795 company, who reports to the medicalofficer and consults with and reportsto the general supervisor of nurs-ing whenever necessary. The gen-eral staff of nurses, at present num-bering twenty-one, are all regis-tered in the state in which they areemployed. Their work consists ofmaking appointments for examina-tion, taking the histories, assistingthe doctors, communicating with su-perior officers, minor first aid andemergency work, dressings, etc. Great stress is laid on courtesyand kindness. Every employee isgiven the same care and attentionhe would receive at the office ofhis private physician. Nursesgreet them as they arrive, makethem feel at home, and see that onlyone patient is in the examining roomat a time. The visiting nurses callat the homes of employees onlyupon request, when they are unableto come to the medical department,and with the permission of the at-tending physician.
