Brevet Brigadier-General James A. Ekin, U. S. V. Brigadier-General T. M. Harris, U. S. V. Brevet Colonel C. H. Tompkins, U. S. V. Lieutenant-Colonel David R. Clendenin, 8th IllinoisCavalry. Brigadier-General Joseph Holt, Judge-Advocate andRecorder, assisted by Judge-Advocate Henry L. Burnettand Hon. John A. Bingham. Brevet Major-General John E. Hartranft was assignedto duty as special provost-marshal. II9 eleven feet high, supported by three wooden pillars.Four windows, with heavy iron gratings, afforded tolera-ble ventilation, and there were two ante-rooms for theaccommodation of the court and witnesses. The roomwas whitewashed and painted for the occasion, aprisoners dock was constructed along the western side,the floor was covered with cocoa matting, and the tablesand chairs were new. Gas was introduced, in case thecourt should protract its sittings until after dark. During the trial the members of the court were all infull uniform, and were seated around a large table parallelwith the north side of the room. General Hunter, thepresident, sat at the eastern end. At the foot of this tablewas another occupied by Judge-Advocate-General Holt,with his assistants, Hon. John A. Bingham and ColonelH. L. Burnett.
