Taking the seasons 1905-06 and 1906-07 as anexample, where we have actual measurements ofthe stream flow at Arroyo Valle, the peak of thehigh flood in this ease, which occurred March 23,1907, was at the rate of over 3000 M. G. D.Ihese seasons have been plotted in the form ofa mass diagram on Plate 15, which shows therapid jumps in the flow during storms. By usingthe reservoir as a regulator and letting the waterout at the rate of 211 M. G. D., the reservoirwould never have been more than full. Thus, instead of an abrupt and intense flood of 3000M. G. D. reaching the surface of the undergroundgravel reservoir, water would be applied to thegravel at a rate not to exceed 211 M. G. D.,which is a very convenient amount of Mater tohandle. Similarly, for the fl-ood of March, 1906, insteadof contending with a flood at the rate of nearly2500 M. G. D., by using the Arroyo Valle Reser
