s a centralavenue 120 feet in width, and 1,832 feet in length, which is the longestavenue of that width ever introduced into an exhibition building. The foundations consist of piers of masonry, the superstructure beingcomposed of wronght-iron columns placed 24 feet apart, which supportwrought-iron roof-trusses. There are 672 of these columns in the entirestructure, the shortest being 23 feet and the longest 125 feet long. Theiraggregate weight is 2,200,000 lbs. The roof-trusses and girders weigh5,000,000 lbs. Turrets surmount the building at all tlie corners and angles ;and the national standard, with appropriate emblems, is placed over each ofthe main entrances. There are numerous side-entrances, each being sur-mounted with a trophy showing the national colors of the country occupy-ing that portion of the building. Offices for the foreign commissions areplaced along the sides of the building, in close proximity to the productsexhibited. Offices for the administration are at the ends.

The arrangement of products in the main building is by eiglit depart-ments, placed in parallel zones lengthwise the buildings, the zones being ofdifferent width according to the bulk of the products exhibited in the par-ticular department. The countries and states exhibiting are arranged inparallel zones crosswise the building, these zones also being of differentwidths according to the amount of space required for the exhibits of eachcountry. Between each department and each country are passage-ways dis-tinctly marking the limit of each. By this means the visitor who desires tocompare products of the same kind from diffeient parts of the world maydo so by passing through the building lengthwise, keeping in the zonedevoted to the particular department; or if he desires to examine the prod-ucts exhibited by any particular country or state he may do so by passingthrough the building crosswise, in the zone devoted to the country or statehe is studyin
