The Picturesque Rideau Route. of Lake Ontario, is practically the starting point. The steamers leave that cityon Mondays and Thursdays at 7 a. m., and on Tuesdays and Fridays at 1 p.m.Passing through Cataraqui Bridge, which connects Kingston with a military re-servation on which is Fort Henry and the Royal Military College, the boat entersa very pretty channel, with bluffs on both sides, which finally converges into a nar-row ravine, with perpendicular sides towering up 200 feet high. After winding alongfor fully half a mile between those walled rocks, the first lock of Kingston Millsis reached. There are four locks, and the total lift is forty-seven feet. Thedam that holds back the water is over 6,000 feet long by fourteen feet high, andat a great height overhead the Grand Trunk Railway track spans from hill to hill.The scenery here is sublime, and people travel long distances in order to enjoy H
