lan, there are two saloons, a heatercloset and smoking-room. The saloons are provided withall the usual fittings, and the wash-stands are of Tennesseemarble. The smoking-room has two sofas upholstered inembossed leather. In the main body of the car there is asofa at the end, and the other seats are of the Scarritt-Forney twin type, a pattern which has proved verypopular on roads where it has been introduced. Fig. 4shows very well the general plan and arrangement of theseseats ; it shows at the same time the interior decoration,which is simple but very neat. The seats are upholsteredin plush, the seat ends are of mahogany, and the closetsare in natural mahogany ; the trimmings are of solidbrass. The ceiling is of quartered oak. The car is provided with the Baker heater with straightpiping and the New York Safety Car Heating Companyssafety attachment. There are eight Hicks-Smith centerlamps and one bracket lamp. The platforms are thestandard Miller type,with wrought-iron draw-bars. The car is fittedwith the Boyderi brake,with Hodges system ofbrake levers. The brake-shoes are the Christiehead on the National hollow brake beam. The trucks are four-wheeled trucks of the St.Charles Companys stand-ard pattern, with wheelsspaced 8 ft. apart. Thepedestals, journal boxesand journals are the M.C. B. standard pattern.The axles are M. C. B.standard, of iron, and thewheels are 33-in,, doubleplate, weighing 600 lbs.each. The bolster springsare quintuple elliptic 3 X11 X 36 in., and theequalizer springs arethree-coil round-bar spi-ral 8x10 in, , The vestibules are cov-ered with oil-cloth andthe body of the car withWilton carpet. The minorfittings include 18 um-brella holders and sixcard tables. Large mir-rors are placed on thebulkhead partition, andthe toilet rooms are veryneatly fitted up. The seating capacity is35 in the body of the carand 7 in the smoking-room, making 42 in all.It is an excellent exam-p
