275 — L'INDISPENSABLE — It is a huge ball of del-
icate baby-pink. Has by far the most petals
of any Peony in our collection. On the Pacific
slope this is said to stand at the head of the list
of all varieties. The past June it was as fine a
Peony as any in our entire collection. 35 cents.
135 — LINNE — Large, globular,, compact bloom.
Color Tyrian-rose; guards slightly necked with
crimson; quite floriferous. At a reception held
in Springfield, a lot of Linne cut with three and
a half foot stems placed in a vase four feet in
height was more admired than any variety dis-
played, and there were some three thousand
Peony blooms used. It is a wonder. 50 cents.
82— LOUIS VAN HOXJTTE — Very fine, shapely
bloom; color bright violaceous red of dazzling
effect. 35 cents.
138 — MADAME BUCQUET — Color velvety crimson,
almost black; very rich and magnificent. 50 cts.
32 — MADAME FOREL — Enormous, very full dou-
ble bloom; color glossy, deep pink with a silvery
reflex; known as the "Princess of Pink Peonies,"
a title it well deserves and proudly carries. Al-
most as large as the famous Monsieur Jules
Elie. Extra fine. 50 cents.
39 — MARECHAL VALLIANT — Immense globes of
clear red with shades of mauve. 50 cents.
276 — MARGUERITE GERARD — Color delicate pink,
changing as the flower ages to creamy- white;
a sensational flower. 75 cents.
31 — MARIE LEMOINE — The flowers are enormous
and massive, often eight to ten inches across.
Color ivory-white with occasional narrow car-
mine tracing on edge of some petals. A sort
the Peony enthusiast raves over, and well he
may. 35 cents.
10 — MARIE STUART — The color is a delicate lav-
ender flecked with cerise. Our field plot of Marie
Stuart in bloom is surely "a carpet fit for the
feet of angels to tread." 50 cents.
246 — MASTERPIECE — Brilliant Tyrian-rose; free
bloomer. A very distinct and beautiful variety.
Fine, tall grower; fragrant. 75 cents.
35 — MEISSONIER — Very brilliant crimson, called
in the Chicago market the American Beauty
Peony, as it resembles that Rose in color. 50 cents.
48— MONSIEUR JULES EL.D3 — This is the king of
all Peonies, and is without question M. Crousse's
masterpiece. Immense, globular, very full
flowers. Color an ideal glossy lilac-pink, shad-
ing to deeper rose at the base, the entire flower
overlaid with a sheen of silver that fairly shim-
mers in the sunlight. Monsieur Jules Elie is
claimed by many to be the largest of all Peony
flowers. On young, vigorous plants we have
had flowers eight and nine inches through. In
fact they are so large and handsome that but
few can realize they are Peony blossoms on first
seeing them. An unapproachable variety from
any standpoint. When cut in the bud a good
keeper, thus fine for cut flowers. Our planting
comprises some twenty thousand plants of this
grand Peony. Easily scores the six points of
excellence. 75 cents.
6 — MONSIEUR KRELAGE — Deep currant or sol-
ferino-red, with amaranthine center. The French
hybridists evidently spilled their paint pot
after producing this superb variety, as there is
nothing in Peonies of its color. 50 cents.

51 — PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT — It is a deep, rich,
brilliant red in color, different from any red we
know, and a grand Peony. 75 cents.
50 — PRINCESS BEATRICE — Large, compact, high
built crown. Guards delicate lilac-rose, collar
creamy-white with shades of amber. Crown of
brilliant sea-shell pink, the extreme center
flecked crimson. A glorious flower, a very
"splendor of fragrant loveliness;" free bloomer,
fragrant. Unquestionably the best of all the
tricolor Peonies. Simply exquisite. 50 cents.
40 — QUEEN VICTORIA — The very best every day
white. "When cut a first rate keeper. Flower
of good substance and color; very pretty in the
bud state, when it has a faint blush tint; an old
standby. 35 cents.
181— TRIOMPHE DE EXPOSITION DE LILLE —
Large compact bloom of a fresh bright pink.
Splashed with darker tints of violet-rose and
with white reflex. This is one of our favorite
Peonies. 75 cents.
TREE PEONIES
This is a remarkable species, developed from
Peony Mouton, a native of China and Japan. In
habit of growth it is not unlike a deciduous shrub
— the growths are short and stocky, the plant
eventually attaining a height of four or more feet
and of large circumference; the foliage is quite
handsome, and the immense flowers, which usually
appear some two weeks ahead of the herbaceous
class, are most remarkable for their immense size
and gorgeous colorings. Splendid for grouping or
for specimen plants on lawns. While a hardy plant,
it will be found desirable to give it some protection
in very cold latitudes. All shoots springing from
the base should be rubbed off. We offer any color
desired, our choice of varieties only, at $1.25 each.
OFFICINALIS SECTION
These are earlier hloomers than the Chinensis sec-
tion. They are the old May-flowering Peonies of
our mothers' gardens. Price. 50 cents each; the
three for $1.25.
OFFICINALIS RUBRA (PI. PI.) — The old-fashioned
early deep crimson variety of our grandmothers'
gardans.
OFFICINALIS ROSEA (Fl. PI.) — Very large, well-
formed bloom; color deep pink; very brilliant
and effective.
OFFICINALIS ALBA (Mntabilis) — White, Striped
with pink.
