: this is no dream on mypart. At four oclock in the afternoon we are withinsight of Skagway, a city of wondrous and rapidgrowth. Its appearance is very attractive, as it liesat the foot of a lofty mountain, and is evidently awide-awake place, with much Go in it. Met-calf & Hooker, of the committee on Fourth of Julysubscriptions, were closing up their canvas lastnight, and were confident that the total amountwould not be under $450, which will be sufficient tocover the expenses of a big celebration. The othercolumns are filled with the usual order of odds andends, gossip, business and social news, and adver-tisements. The town manifests the inevitable crudeness ofits mushroom growth. There are many framehouses, although it is evident that the progres-sive spirit of the place is demanding more sub-stantial buildings. The modern models are stonestructures, with strong foundations, which predicta prosperous career f
