reated sea. •- - About this time. Fort Julien, upon the Rosettabranch of the Nile, was taken by the Englishand Turks; which was followed by the evacua-tion of Rosetta. Rachmanie, an important fort,was then attacked and carried : by the captureof this place, all communication with Alexandriawas said to be interrupted. Immediately afterthe capture of Rachmanie, the English armybegan its march to Cairo : their ro^te was alongthe banks of the Nile. They proceeded aboutten miles a day, suffering much from the heat,as well as from the drenching dew and themosquitoes during the night. Berelos andDamiata, upon the coast, were moreover aban-doned by the French and Maltese, and takenpossession of by the Turks. The Maltese desertedto us; and the French, putting to sea, werecaptured by our fleet.
