out any apparent cause. Aniridectomy gave permanent relief in both cases. The question arising inmy mind is, was the glaucoma the result of the extraction without iridec-tomy, or was it the result of age, or was it the result of both combined? Inmy opinion, it is much safer to operate on persons of advanced age with theiridectomy. Case I. is remarkable for the reason that there was no apparent causefor the disease than the cataract, and the lens was by no means a large one.Since its extraction there has been no return of the glaucoma, although twoyears have elapsed since the operation. The only other cases of more than ordinary interest are Xos. III. andVI., and these are so only from their causation. This series of cases well illustrates two very important points in thetreatment of the different types of glaucoma: First, the usefulness of es-erine and warm applications in the beginning of the treatment; second, that, sooner or later, an iridectomy is required in the majority of cases.
