In the exquisite setting provided by the paleblue, white and yellow colonial draperies and festoons withwhich the hall was most artistically decorated, the receptionoffered an exceptionally brilliant spectacle. In fact, it wasprobably the most striking affair of its kind New Milford hasever witnessed. Dancing was begun, to the music of Gartlands Band, whenthe handshaking was over, and was kept up for two or threehours after the Governor and his party had retired. Governor Woodruff was also entertained in the rooms ofthe Commercial Club; in Odd Fellows and INIasonic Hall, wherehe was formally welcomed by Henry O. Warner, Past Masterof the New Milford Masonic lodge; and by the New MilfordFire Department, in their quarters, where he was welcomed byChief John F. Addis, who presented him with an engrossed cer-tificate of honorary membership in Water Witch Hose Com-pany, No. 2.

GOVERNORS DAY On Tuesday, the culminating day of the Bi-Centennial Cele-bration, New Milford possessed a population variously esti-mated at from ten to fifteen thousand—the largest, probably,of any moment in its history. The heat was intense, and somewere so tactless as to prophesy showers. Others—and thesewere right—scoffed at such a possibility, basing their optimismon the fact that the new uniforms of the Governors staff hadnever yet been wet and that New Milford was not going to beungracious enough to be instrumental in wetting them. The forenoon was devoted to the preparation of the Civicand Military Parade, which was scheduled to begin at noon.Only a few minutes after the time appointed, the column beganto move in the following order: FORMATION OF PARADE CHIEF MARSHAL SAMUEL R.
