No. 167NUDE BY ALFRED MOHRBUTTER Alfred Mohrbutter German : Contemporary 167—NUDE (Pastel) r-X Height, 40 inches; width, 31 inrhes Full-length figure of a plump, almost stout, youngwoman who has paused on her way to or from herbath, and seating herself on a rush-bottomed chair orstool has taken up a cup or other similar object, whichshe is examining intently. She faces the spectator,with her pretty face bent over the cup, and is nude.Her discarded white drapery cushions her chair, andbehind her a white coverlet falls over the arching footof a bed. A soft light concentrated upon her figurescarcely penetrates to the dim walls of the room, whichyield a dark background with colorful suggestions inlow, rich tones. Signed at the lower left, Mohrbutter. Purchased at the Grosse Berliner Kunst Ausstellung, Berlin, 1912.
