As a boy, he had been solemnlysent to Verona for confirmation, the Em-peror, on that occasion, exchanging thechilds name of Pietro for the Emper-ors own, in sign of high favour and affec-tion. After this, the lad spent much of histime at Court, and before he was twenty,married a Hungarian princess. The an-nalists of this period exhaust their storeof adjectival epithets in praise of his giftsof person, intellect, and heart.
