THE YEARS 1820 AND 1821 it, than the ideal tinge which it received from his owncharacter and feelings. The present Poem, like the VitaNuova^- of Dante, is sufiiciently intelligible to a certainclass of readers without a matter-of-fact history of thecircumstances to which it relates; and to a certain otherclass it must ever remain incomprehensible, from a defectof a common organ of perception for the ideas of whichit treats.
