Uploader User:GeekyUU is not an active contributor, but their account does have an email associated, and we would do well to contact them before presuming they did not have the right to license this picture. コメント Jmabel while I don't entirely disagree wth you, the photograph is one taken in 1972 by a family member. I don't have an email that I am willing to reveal by emailing the uploader. - And, indeed, I got a prompt response. The uploader is Anita's daughter-in-law, married to America Hoffman (the baby in the photo) who is the heir to his grandmother's intellectual property rights. I'll add "heirs" to the copyright template. @Timtrent: do you feel we need to go through COM:VRT? As far as I know, the image had no prior publication, and I would think we could assume good faith. America is the clearest heir to the rights, though they are probably community property so his wife, the uploader, should be equally OK for uploading under an "heirs" license. He was cc'd on the email she sent me.

- VRT is likely not to be necessary if there is a way of your endorsing the picture with the response (précised) that you have received. That would save a further discussion. Closed as keep. Seems like we have consensus, including Timtrent who initially tagged this as "no permission."
I will put this all on the file talk page to document how we got here. It looks like people on this discussion all agree further that the correspondence I just had constitutes sufficient documentation, since I'm pretty sure no one considers my good faith to be in question. Please, though, if someone believes this needs the VRT, raise that issue sooner rather than later so that I can readily get hold of the relevant parties. - Jmabel ! talk 18:19, 30 October 2023 (UTC)
