The source provided seems to suggest that Mosquera uses the Arms of the current Pope undifferenced, rather then just the shield and teh addition of a mural crown. How come we're not showing that? Fry1989 eh? 22:30, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Because the papal shield is ecclesiastical, does not seem right to use a shield of this type in civil heraldry. It's notable that many governments of Colombian municipalities unaware of heraldry and don't know that using this type of shield is incorrect.--Shadowxfox (talk) 05:58, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I wonder if there was a legal change somewhere that could be found on why this shield was chosen. User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 04:42, 8 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Until now I do not know the law or decree that adopted the shield of Benedict as the town itself; on the Municipal page there is no vestige of it. I would have to communicate with the city council for details.--Shadowxfox (talk) 19:34, 8 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The problem isn't the shield. The source shows them using the Pope's arms, keys, papal crown and all. Either they're very confused, or I'm very confused. Fry1989 eh? 21:56, 8 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Count me in as also confused. User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 23:22, 8 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No, you aren't. They use the papal arms (according to source) but that is, obviously, wrong from the heraldic point of view. Ecclesiastical heraldry is very different from civil, and they do not understand that.
Considering that most shields in Colombia are not heraldic at all and most seem paintings or pictures (except colonial shields), is a miracle that they adopted something like a good shield, although its use is not correct.--Shadowxfox (talk) 06:09, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately from a legal aspect the nuances of heraldry mean nothing. If they say they use the Pope's arms including the keys and the hat and the rest, either that's what they use and we have to show it, or they're wrong and they don't. But so far that is conjecture at best. Fry1989 eh? 06:12, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
So, I must draw the papal arms for the municipality? Well, I don't have problem with that, but even still seems wrong to me. And think of it, it is not true that heraldry has nothing to do with the legal aspect, some European countries use shields that have to follow laws that are contemplated by the heraldry and its own constitution. (sorry for my bad English).--Shadowxfox (talk) 06:20, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No, because we have the papal arms already on the Commons. However, I just do not know for sure if this city uses the papal arms by law or was it a mistake. User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 06:58, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That's why I raised the question. It could be they use it like they show, it could be a mistake on their part, I really have no clue. I don't think any of us can say for sure at the moment. Fry1989 eh? 07:39, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well, Can we do? maybe I should contact the council and wait for them to give me an answer.--Shadowxfox (talk) 16:35, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, please contact the city council. User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 19:08, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
