This flag should have 2:3 ratio, not the 1:2. I see this IS the 2002-2004 flag (as written in text), but I think we need new flag since 2004, which has same design, but differs in ratio. --Zirland

FOTW agrees, will fix. ¦ Reisio 14:30, 17 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed. This flag still needs a lot of work, but it's basically 2:3 now. ¦ Reisio 17:22, 18 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Reisio. Eventually (hopefully) this will be the current flag of Afghanistan. I went ahead and uploaded the old 1:2 version as Image:Flag of Afghanistan (2002-2004).svg. User:dbenbenn 01:21, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Mmm, I'm not looking forward to playing with the emblem (why can't they all just be three stripes :p) ¦ Reisio 03:15, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

removal of borders...what?[edit]

"Note: In order that this flag be fully compatible with Wikipedia system software, borders on all objects should be either removed or transformed into paths."

...say what? ¦ Reisio 20:44, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Color[edit]

Is that red-brown border around the objects of the lower part of the emblem right? --Madden 00:25, 1 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have the same question... Most shapes have an orange outline; unsure if that's right. 177.133.110.198 02:26, 18 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I will have to find the flag I have from the country (made in 2004) but I remember from different flags, the outline colors are red. But with Afghanistan, we can never tell for sure. User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 06:24, 19 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Expired Afghanistan Flag[edit]

The Afghan Flag is currently under Valued Images and is although expired as Afghanistan first hoisted a new flag on December 7th 2004 at President Karzai's inauguration ceremony and introduced the flag as the new national flag of the newly born Islamic Republic of Afghanistan since then.

The details of the coat-of-arms and flag are regulated in Chapter I, Article no. 19 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan adopted on January 4th 2004 and signed by Karzai as President of the Transitional Islamic State of Afghanistan at that time on January 26th 2004.

Higher resolution vector graphics[edit]

Could we upload a new version of the flag of Afghanistan, using the higher quality/more detailed version of the national emblem found at File:National Emblem of Afghanistan 001.svg ?
VulpesVulpes42 (talk) 10:15, 3 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The big thing we will need to do is to convert the black to white and the flag stripes are all white. However, there is a vector version of the arms from the government itself and would be better suited for the flag. User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 04:38, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That does sound like good news. If I took on the task of converting the color image to white, and uploaded that as a temporary file to Commons, would that be enough for you or someone else to use that and upload a new version of Afghanistan's flag? —VulpesVulpes42 (talk) 08:38, 5 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I do not have admin powers anymore, but I will not oppose such a thing. User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 10:19, 5 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Zscout370: Well, after a few days of trying to get the file into shape, I finally wound up with this. The biggest thing that had to be done, bigger than making sure that the flags had three white bands, was to make everything transparent, as everything was filled in, and there being a chaotic tangled mess of crisscrossing paths behind the fill that had to be dealt with. There were also some problems with lines that weren't entirely horizontal/vertical, nodes that didn't meet up properly, and there still might some problems with symmetry among other things, but I had to call it quits sooner or later. What I am most afraid of is that I somehow messed something up, but I guess we'll just have to see. With that file now existing, which administrator should we get to upload a new version of the flag of Afghanistan? —VulpesVulpes42 (talk) 19:09, 7 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Change has been done. VexilAlpaca (talk) 22:44, 28 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Флаг[edit]

Нужно изменить флаг и герб на талибский, так как фактически, власть сменилась. AbobusGeorge (talk) 18:37, 16 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect[edit]

The redirect of "Flag of Afghanistan" to "Flag of Taliban" caused problems at least on svwp, because the file is still used in cases were the republics flag should be used, regardless who controll the country right now (historic context, for example). Höstblomma (talk) 05:12, 27 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Protected[edit]

Hi, I protected this file for a year. This seems necessary given the current situation. Regards, Yann (talk) 14:30, 4 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dubious Construction[edit]

The design construction provided by @VexilAlpaca is based upon a flag website that claims to have multiple constructions of flags however most of these appear to not match some existing ones from what i've seen.

The revision before VexilAlpaca changed the file was based upon an actual provided image from the Afghan government website before it went down due to the Taliban's capture of Kabul. BlinxTheKitty (talk) 02:13, 17 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
