Anyone to update ?[編集]

The last update for this map was on 25 November.

Since 2014 a lot of things have happened in the warzone. Is there anyone who would refresh the situation in Ukraine map ?

Donetzk Airport can be delete from the map. --2A02:908:DB25:EB00:71C6:B6FB:9644:A6F5 20:56, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[返信]
Guys, see the note at the top. Discussion is not occurring at this page. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 02:33, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[返信]

Map needs update[編集]

Or is there really nothing happened since June 2017? --134.176.64.128 12:07, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[返信]

Zaitseve[編集]

Has Zaitseve the wrong colour? The english and german WP saying that Zaitseve was conquered by separatists in 2014 and reconquered in 2015 by the Ukrainian army so it should be blue instead of red. --2A02:908:C31:C260:C2F:EA94:FBE7:A55D 18:40, 15 December 2019 (UTC)[返信]

Updating to multilingual[編集]

There are several versions of this map, but this file is used in English, Ukrainian, and several other language versions of Wikipedia. I believe that, if it will be available in Ukrainian, Russian and other languages, it will ensure that it is updated more frequently. This should allow to use the same file for all cases and keep more eyes on it.

I already tried SVG Translate tool, but it failed. It is likely caused by the nested <tspan> tags. Inkscape complains that the file is of old SVG format that might be another reason.

I managed to make a single city show in English, Ukrainian, and Russian respectively by setting a <switch> tag manually, but working through the whole document manually is an intimidating task. I hope to find a way to handle it with a Python script, hopefully by quiring Wikidata. It seems easier to correct the English labels according to Wikidata, than to enter all labels in Ukrainian manually. But, at the moment, I am stuck with parsing the XML.

I also noticed a hidden layer with labels in Russian, I will definitely want to move them to the <switch> tags too.

Any guidance or advice will be appreciated. --Роман Рябенко (トーク) 22:18, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[返信]

Is the map in Russian more up to date? It has somewhat different distribution of controlled areas. I find it more appropriate for translation with its labels in Russian in place. The labels in English needs to be updated anyway as I explained above. I also noticed that in both variants the borders of other countries need to be removed from the political minimap as redundant. This will allow to avoid the hassle of updating them. --Роман Рябенко (トーク) 08:30, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[返信]

I suggest removing the legend. This way, all wikis can use {{Legend}} for the translated legend, like in :fr.
I've added a legend for English and French in the description of the file here, it can be translated in other languages and added to the wikis.
Some wikis (like:it) use old versions (2015 for :it) of this map and say it's the current situation.
No, the Russian version is outdated (2017) with a minor update in 2021. The RedBurn (トーク) 11:19, 20 February 2022 (UTC)[返信]

This .svg map file is unfortunately needed to be continuously updated as Russian forces (not D/LPRs forces) are capturing the northern east Luhansk areas![編集]

This is day two of this writing, as the other Russo-Ukrainian War maps are showing, that Luhansk areas are now under control by Russian Arm Forces (and technically Luhansk People's Republic), which later I'm pretty guessing that the Donetsk areas are next; and this may continue of doing so, for who knows how long. Popasna and Svitlodarsk[編集]

Popasna and Svitlodarsk are under Russian Control. Can someone modify the map please ?

Lugansk error[編集]

@Nicolay Sidorov: red mark for Lugansk is placed in wrong place after your last edits. It should be moved to the east. --Triggerhippie4 (トーク) 06:19, 15 May 2022 (UTC)[返信]

Why are half of settlements using Russian-derived transcription and half a Ukrainian-derived one?[編集]

Look e.g. Debaltsevo (Russian: Дебальцево), which in Ukrainian is Debaltseve, but neighbouring Luhans'ke (Ukrainian: Луганське, Russian: Луганское, Luganskoye) uses a transcription that is from Ukrainian. This doesn't even seem consistent on territory control: nearby Vuhlehirs'k (under DPR control) is a Ukrainian-derived name (Uglegorsk would be the Russian transcription), while Druzhkovka (Ukraine-controlled) uses Russian version (the transliteration from Ukrainian is Druzhkivka); same with Zolotoye (Zolote), which is contested. Also, some names that were renamed following their decommunization inconsistently: we can see both Kadiyivka (a Ukrainian-derived transcription of a newer name of what used to be Stakhanov, the way LPR authorities name it), while at the same time we have Karlo-Marksove (called Sofiivka by UA authorities, but also under separatist control).

I have no problem with RU-derived naming (though I'd prefer UA-derived, since it's Ukraine after all), but whatever the case, please apply it consistently. Szmenderowiecki (トーク) 12:50, 20 May 2022 (UTC)[返信]

New York?[編集]

Why is there a lake named "New York" to the left of Gorlovka? I understand it is Nui-York.[1] It is also referred to as such on Google Maps. 182.239.147.173 02:10, 30 May 2022 (UTC)[返信]

Protected[編集]

Hi, I protected this file for 3 months. Get a consensus, and do not edit war. Thanks, Yann (トーク) 18:09, 1 June 2022 (UTC)[返信]

@Yann why protection on a conflicting version? 白猫shiro nekoОбг. 07:52, 2 June 2022 (UTC)[返信]
Yann, are you sure this is a high risk template? Seems to be a file to me. --Base (トーク) 08:03, 2 June 2022 (UTC)[返信]
See m:The Wrong Version. Thanks, Yann (トーク) 12:55, 2 June 2022 (UTC)[返信]
  • Yann. The protected version of the file breaks the rules COM:LP. This is a file with English names and the localities should be described in English, but Nicolay Sidorov contributed original research to it, and added names that do not correspond to the names of the localities in the English Wikipedia. For example, the correct name of the city in the English Wikipedia is en:Luhansk, Nicolay Sidorov changed it. And so he did with many names. --Yakudza (トーク) 13:49, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[返信]
    • Most of the towns don’t have English names. Instead they have an Ukrainian name and a Russian name. Both names are legitimate. And in most cases they only differ by their othography. If you insist that the Ukrainian version is the right one, you just try to push one certain point of view. -- Sloyment (トーク) 01:46, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[返信]

I’m not happy with the current situation. The interesting part of the map is not about the names, but the changing frontline. Nicolay Sidorov has done a great job in keeping the map updated daily for months, but thanks to the edit war and the subsequent edit protection, the map now remains frozen. -- Sloyment (トーク) 01:46, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[返信]

I agree that having an updated map is more important than arguing about names of cities that only slightly change from a language to another. I would choose English Ukrainian names over English Russian names (for example Luhansk over Lugansk) since Crimea, DNR, LPR and controlled territories by Russia in Ukraine are not recognized as Russian by the vast majority of world countries. Also what's the best program to edit this with? Dawsongfg (トーク) 19:19, 10 June 2022 (UTC)[返信]
Help:Inkscape or Help:Adobe Illustrator / Corel Draw. I think need 2 maps: 2014-2022 and only 2022. Maybe map 2022 create based on frame with File:2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.svg 白猫shiro nekoОбг. 00:12, 2 July 2022 (UTC)[返信]

Bakhmut[編集]

why is bakhmut the actual name of the city only in brackets? the city is called bakhmut, that's the name of the city, get that soviet name out there Norschweden (トーク) 09:40, 24 June 2022 (UTC)[返信]

Why the Russian Transliterations/Please Unlock the File[編集]

First, why are many of the names using old/russian transliterations. It used to have more modern/Ukrainian transliterations, https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/archive/9/91/20220404140437%21Map_of_the_war_in_Donbass.svg why was that changed?

Second, why is the map still locked? This file is in the main article, and has now fallen a month behind since being locked.

Besides that, I don't see why we even need this file, considering we already have File:2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.svg. --Physeters 08:41, 30 July 2022 (UTC)[返信]

@Physeters now fallen a month - no, becouse it's map en:War in Donbas (2014–2022). Needs: Reverted this map to 2022-02 and created new map for en:Battle of Donbas (2022) (crop-base with File:2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.svg) 白猫shiro nekoОбг. 01:31, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[返信]
@AlexKozur someone has uploaded this file a second time and that version is still editable, File:War for donbass 24-6-2022.svg. I've updated that file so that it reflects the current situation, so you can revert this one back once it unlocks. Physeters 02:21, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[返信]
Also, I've added a comment about the Russian names on its talk page, so please voice your opinion on which translation should be used over there. Physeters 02:24, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[返信]
@Physeters as File:2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.svg. If someone wants to change these names, it is better to create a separate map, this map was based on just such names. If you can divide map as Map of the Battle of Donbas (2022) and Map of the War in Donbas (2014–2022). Map in situation until February 24 necessary. Sorry I couldn't answer before. 白猫shiro nekoОбг. 02:03, 12 September 2022 (UTC)[返信]
✓ 完了 I unprotected it. Do not edit-war, or the file will be protected again. Yann (トーク) 06:16, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[返信]

37.163.231.198 00:49, 2 February 2023 (UTC)[返信]
