Missing border

Papua New Guinea's border with Indonesia is missing on this map.

Hawaii

Shouldn't Hawaii be green as well? Admittedly it's barely visible, but the gray smudge on the edge should be green.

The en:Oceania article does not include areas west of the Wallace line as part of Oceania. I appreciate that there are differing definitions, but this change makes the image unsuitable for use in that article. If you want an image to include such areas, please create a separate image so this one is still available.-gadfium (talk) 19:33, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

Actually, it's that way specifically for the WP-en article, which does include Malay Arch. There are various conceptions of Oceania; the narrow one wouldn't show up, and this one is synonymous with Austronesia. It makes sense to use the broad definition for the image.

If you wish to follow the main part of the WP-en article, then you should only include half of New Guinea, as all of Indonesia is excluded by the UN.

The en:Oceania article mentions the broader definitions, but includes only the parts of Indonesia east of the Wallace line in its tables of populations and area. I was hoping the image we included would match that. By uploading the broader-definition image to en, you have rendered this image inaccessible to the article, which is exactly the reverse of what I wanted.-gadfium (talk) 20:11, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

Other parts of the description exclude all of Indonesia, even Papua. Neither corresponds to this map, which includes Papua but excludes Maluku. There are so many variations that it's hard to see why we should pick any one over the others, other than that a broad definition would at least show the range of conceptions (though perhaps not so broad as to include Japan: I've never seen a source that actually used the term that way). We could, I suppose, create several maps: Oceania, broad; Oceania, UN; Oceania, narrow (different projection); etc. Kwamikagami (talk) 14:03, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

I would prefer to see an image which is centred over the Pacific Ocean, so that the full territory of Oceania can be seen. However, at present, our working definition of Oceania at least in the English Wikipedia is the list of territories in that article, which includes the eastern parts of Indonesia. This is Australasia, which is only one conception of Oceania. If we're not talking specifically about Australasia, then we should use a more general map of Oceania. Kwamikagami (talk) 00:53, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

@Lasunncty: At the end of the long third line the timestamp "2008 Jun 12 03:54:25" is specified, as invisible text (text id="text2466"), and "OMC - Martin Weinelt" (text id="text2560). All the versions since the first one of 2009-06-25 bear this watermark. AFAIK is there a consent that such watermarks should be avoided. -- sarang♥사랑 06:39, 9 December 2021 (UTC)
