"Congregazione per la Dottrina della Fede"

[edit]

@Vuccala: the map still says "Congregazione per la Dottrina della Fede", but it is called "Dicasterio per la Dottrina della Fede" since 2022 (see: w:en:Praedicate evangelium). Do you think the map should be updated?

Also, do you see other things on this map whose name has changed IRL since this map was created? Veverve (talk) 20:13, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Veverve: Good catch, it is indeed now the Dicastery. I'm currently working on manually translating the Italian SVG map into an English svg version, and I'm checking the buildings for updates (since 2013 when it was made) as I go. Some on the English png also lack their English name, so I'm adding those too. Feel free to update this SVG yourself if you want, if not, then I will after I'm done making the up-to-date English version. –Vuccala (talk) 23:07, 26 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Vuccala: how is it going? Veverve (talk) 03:09, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Veverve: I have now updated the file to include the new English names (from Wikidata) that replace outdated names and some that were missing. The English version can now be seen via the "Render this image in: English (en)" button.
Before an English PNG version is made, there are some minor issues with text alignment that need to be fixed. The SVG Translate Tool breaks apart some of the names in strange ways, causing misalignments after translation (For example, "Mater Ecclesiae Monastery" is very misaligned and also overlaps "Vegetable Garden").
I forgot to translate Radio Vaticana (Direzione) to Vatican Radio (Administration), and as you mentioned "Congregazione per la Dottrina della Fede" needs to be changed to "Dicasterio per la Dottrina della Fede" on the Italian version. As I'm not sure how to fix the text alignment issue myself, do you know anyone who can? –Vuccala (talk) 23:36, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Vuccala: User:Goran tek-en probably knows how to. You should ask them at their talk page. Veverve (talk) 03:57, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Veverve @VuccalaThere are some things/inputs I like to add here.
  • I don't understand why there is a template "Technically replaced" that this image should not be used and then referring to an image without the new borders we added and not with the translations you use?
  • To my knowledge and experience it's very difficult to use an automated translating tool when you have so much texts in limited areas as we do here. As we all know texts in different languages are differently long and this and other things is not taken care of with a tool like that. So for me it would be better to create separate language files but of course this might be some more work and if anything is edited within the map they all have to be changed, but the outcome would be better and more controlled.

@Goran tek-en As to your first issue, that's a good question. @JoKalliauer: could you please fill us in on why that is?
As for your second issue, an svg version for each translation sounds sensible. Could one be made for English by choosing the Render this image in [English] to get the translated (but misaligned) English version, then either you or someone from Commons:Graphic Lab fixes up the text alignment, and uploads the file to Wikimedia Commons as its own English version svg/png? –Vuccala (talk) 22:45, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Vuccala Right now the active version is one from 2017 and I have asked @JoKalliauer why (I think it was them) it was reverted to that. Ones we are back to the latest version I can do an English version. --please ping me-- Goran tek-en (talk) 10:28, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Goran tek-en: The template was added 2017 and check when you uploaded the version stating "removed text paths" in 2023, so you did the same fix with a different method.
@Vuccala: Please read phab:T337199, why English rendering is broken.
@All: Can anyone confirm, that the order of the images is not chronolocigal? (I don't know why, maybe a cache-issue?)

@JoKalliauer: Why did you revert to an old version which doesn't have the later fixes/edits? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Goran tek-en (talk • contribs) 10:22, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@JoKalliauer: Indeed, it is not a cache thing: the date of the last edit (last version) above the 2023 dates, is marked as "16:56, 26 December 2017". Veverve (talk) 12:07, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Veverve: Thanks I reuploaded the image, now it is in chroncial order. I don't know why the order was messed up.  — Johannes Kalliauer - Talk | Contributions 12:35, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@JoKalliauer: I still have no idea what you did. Did you split the history? If so, why? And where is the second file created by the split? Veverve (talk) 07:58, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Veverve: I did a merge  — Johannes Kalliauer - Talk | Contributions 16:51, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Is the file now ready for someone to re-align the English text? If so, would you @Goran tek-en: like to do it? –Vuccala (talk) 03:19, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Vuccala I will start a topic on my talk page for this. --please ping me-- Goran tek-en (talk) 13:00, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
