"Good recommendation. I have translations and searchable text versions of some texts on this site:

They have been sitting there for a decade, and are not very visible to the world. I still haven't completed the translation of the Dai Viet su ky toan thu part, but hopefully, I can do that early next year. I don't think Wikisource existed when I did this. It would make the most sense to put this stuff on Wikisource, as I want it to be publicly available and searchable.

Right now there are a bunch of things that I have to get done first, but I'll try to do this early next year. It's a good idea. Thanks for mentioning it!!". --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 05:51, 29 October 2021 (UTC) .

Help me to investigate

Hello, can you help me to investigate about a Vietnamese literature work? Several days ago, I've discovered a work about the Vietnam War, which knows as 南方来信 Letter From the South for us. I saw there is an article described that:

According above article, this should be named Letter from the Fatherland in Vietnam (in this article, 祖国来信), including a series of letters talk about the war, this was translated in Chinese in January 1964. In China, this was published between May and July of the same year, and later derived as straight play, manga, and even Peking Opera (I added them in Outline of the Vietnam War). So in China this became the most notable Vietnamese work at the times. If you're able to known about more information about this Letter from the Fatherland, I hope you let me know. Thanks. -- Great Brightstar (talk) 15:43, 25 October 2021 (UTC)

@Great Brightstar: , excuse the late reply as I have a lot of things off-wiki to attend to lately. Anyhow, thank you for bringing this to my attention as I have never heard of the Tổ Quốc Lai Tín (祖國來信) before and it sounds very interesting to me so when I have the time I will investigate it. But as it will be quite some time until I am available again for such things I would advise you to e-mail Lê Minh Khải at "liam.kelley@ubd.edu.bn" as he has a lot of access to PRC-North Vietnamese relations-related works and has wrote about the propaganda from both related to each other. Please update me if he gives you something. --Donald Trung (talk) 19:09, 27 October 2021 (UTC)

@Donald Trung: I just found 2 maps that for some reason showed northern Thailand as part of Vietnamese dynasty: File:Southeast Asia, Birman Empire & Countries South and East of the Ganges, 1831.jpg and File:China and the Birman empire with parts of Cochin China and Siam.jpg. I have never seen any maps like these before. The two maps were published in the early 1830s in the UK. Did the authors make some mistakes? Or there is something I didn't know? Ltn12345 (talk) 00:43, 1 November 2021 (UTC)

@Ltn12345: , regarding "File:China and the Birman empire with parts of Cochin China and Siam.jpg" it actually shows it as a part of "Laos" or "Lan"(?), I think that these were likely hundreds of independent Shan states that were nominally under a Lao protectorate status, which was itself a Nguyễn Dynasty tributary state, the map also shows a border between "Cochin China proper" and the country to its west so I don't think that the British mapmakers considered the area to be Cochin Chinese, well, as "Cochin Chinese" as India was "British", though this is probably more comparable to a sphere of influence than anything else, note that countries always claim areas that they don't actually control. "File:Southeast Asia, Birman Empire & Countries South and East of the Ganges, 1831.jpg" is even more ambitious, it shows Yunnan and Laos both again, but the only territory the Nguyễn controlled in what we today call "Laos" then was Trấn Ninh (鎮寧). I think that these maps were working off of incomplete information and just assumed that the Annamese / Cochin Chinese controlled all of "Laos" based on limited European contact and the Annamese / Cochin Chinese nominal claims of ruling Thiên hạ (Hán-Nôm: 天下). I think that the British just took these claims at face value, but it wasn't uncommon for Europeans to exaggerate the size of the Nguyễn Empire, this was used as a justification by the French to conquer Laos from Siam, as they claimed that legally speaking Luang Prabang, Vientiane, and Champassak were all Nguyễn Dynasty protectorates, so would be eligible to become French protectorates, in reality these claims were grossly overestimations of the Nguyễn's territory. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 08:11, 1 November 2021 (UTC)

Vaticaanse munt

--Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 21:09, 5 November 2021 (UTC)
