Please help replace this outdated license
[edit]Hello!
Thank you for donating images to the Wikimedia Commons. You have uploaded some images in the past with the license {{PD}}. While this was a license acceptable in the early days of Wikimedia, since January 2006, this license has been deprecated and since October 2008 no new uploads with this license was allowed.
The license on older images should be replaced with a better and more specific license/permissions and you can help by checking the images and adding {{PD-self}} if you are the author or one of the other templates that you can see in the template on the image page.
Thank you for your help. If you need help feel free to ask at Commons talk:Licensing or contact User:Zscout370.
The images we would like you to check are:

- It's a picture of Red Rooster, but I fixed the licence in his name. --Mjchael (talk) 11:54, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
Hi! LG, Amada44 talk to me 12:38, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
- Also
- löschen
- Picking_Herbei_Oh_Ihr_Glaeubigen.svg löschen
- behalten
- Testfile.svg

- Hi Mjchael.
LG, Amada44 talk to me 14:19, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
:o)) --Mjchael (talk) 19:33, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
- Gern geschehen. LG, Amada44 talk to me 19:47, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
GIFs to SVGs
[edit]Hi Mjchael, the trouble is that once the files have been uploaded here with a free license, other people have permission to use them as they like and may want them retained even if you have no further use for them. In general it is highly controversial to delete files that have been 'replaced' with other format versions, the GIF or PNG to SVG debate is a long standing one. For instance some uses for GIFs may not support SVG files. Apart from cluttering up a category, retaining GIFs is not a problem in any particular way (we could always make a sub category for superseded ones to keep them out of the way). There is also the problem of whether we should put in redirects in place of the old GIFs for references to the file that can't be found by the delinker (eg in logs, wiki history and offsite uses), but redirecting from a GIF to SVG is not best practice. But if you want to delete them, all we need to do is make one deletion request for the whole lot at once, I can help do that if you still want to delete them. --Tony Wills (talk) 19:53, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
- These pictures was not used in any way, that need necessarily a public domain. (I replaced every picture worldwide, and so I've seen it.) Every page, that uses these pictures convert this in PNG. The pictures was uploadet by Red Rooster. It was taken from my old homepage, actually without my prior permission. Because he only wanted to help me, I don't complain. But I was told to paint those pictures as an SVG. Now it's done, so I want to complete my work. The permission was cc-by-sa-2.5 now it is cc-by-sa-3.0. Your standard response because of the license does not really fits! Please delete the unnecessary pictures. (Just speedydelete!) Reason: The author's requirement. I wouldn't like to be compelled to plead an unauthorized upload. Just delete it! --Mjchael (talk) 21:49, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
-- πϵρήλιο ℗ 23:54, 9 August 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Perhelion.
File:Cc-by-nc-nd.svg
[edit]
Hello, I would like to thank you, for your contribution to my first upload.
I had some difficulties for the license of a picture.
Strangely the (CC-BY-NC-ND) tag doesn’t exist, so I used your image to make "a look like one".
It seems that I am the only user of it, so I hope it will work...
Thanks again.
Subiratsc 19:59, 05 December 2011 (UTC)
- It is also used by me (but not here in a wiki-project) and in the Wikibooks it has been used by me. Serve yourselfe. Your welcomme. Greeting from Germany --Mjchael (talk) 19:09, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
- My license procedure is not finished yet because cc-by-nc-nd have no use in wikimedia world. Vielen Dank trotzdem und Gruß aus Frankreich. --Subiratsc (talk) 20:05, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
- According to this selection tree, such a combination should be feasible. The fact that nobody has yet used this combination, should not deter you from using them. It's not the first time, which introduces a Wikipedian an innovation, or an option that no one has used bevor. Je suis heureux à votre service. Salutations collégiales en provenance d'Allemagne. --Mjchael (talk) 21:58, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
- I know... but all above cc by-sa becomes a No free licence, if i get it right. See my status (anyway free and unlimited notions are hell of a string bag). Bitte trinken Sie ein Glühwein für mich. Viel Spaß --Subiratsc (talk) 23:27, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
- In my understanding, this graphic is definitely a free license. Everybody is allowed to use this work. But not change it. This makes sense when you write songs, and wants to retain some control over the form of the text. The restriction for non-commercial use provides a great freedom to use this work. My songs may be freely used for guitar lessons, if incurred by the student (except for the pure cost of printing), no additional costs. For my part I still add, that my work is free for wiki-projects, but other publishers who have no connection to the wiki projects shouldn't earn money with my work, without awarded me at least a little compensation. I hope at least one or two sample copies of the song books are made available. (I write courses for guitar and for this some songs.) That this maybe leads to discussions is clear to me. But I hope that at some time other artists will also write something for a wiki project. However, if this eventually succeed lies in the stars.

File:Tuning ADGBE5 ADGBE0.svg
[edit]Nice work. I am using the graphic in several articles (on English Wikipedia) about regular tunings---major-thirds tuning, all-fourths tuning, augmented fourths tuning, and all-fifths tuning. Kiefer.Wolfowitz (Discussion) 11:15, 17 June 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you for making me aware of it. Greetings --Mjchael (talk) 13:13, 17 June 2012 (UTC)
Hi Mjchael!
I have expanded the regular tunings articles and written an overview article, which may interest you.
With major-thirds tuning, the major and minor chords can be played purely on two consecutive frets---as defined in music theory as (0,4,7) and (0,3,7), rather than as the jumble of standard tuning (or all-fourths tuning, augmented-fourths, all-fifths tuning).
I know that supplicants to djinis are supposed to limit themselves to three wishes, so I hope that I may be permitted to ask for two wishes.... :)
- Would you prepare one of your animated files to illustrate major (and minor if possible) chords in major-thirds tuning, please?
- Would you prepare a companion of your ADGBE0.svg illustration, for a major-thirds tuning (and if the spirit move you for all-fourths, augmented-fourths, all-fifths, and new standard tuning), please?
Given your breadth of deep contributions, I hope it would not be too much work. I would of course be happy to copy-edit any English that you would throw my way, in return! :)
Best regards, Kiefer.Wolfowitz (Discussion) 20:02, 17 August 2012 (UTC)
- I'm a little busy these days. (An event at our church, and right then oh, a meeting of our Guitar Forum). The week after next I'll have a closer look at everything and see what I can do for you. --Mjchael (talk) 18:58, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks very much! Don't sweat it!
- I wrote to a French guitarist, who has developed some nice diagrams for major and minor chords, asking him to upload them here. His blog is now listed as an external link in en:Major thirds tuning. Kiefer.Wolfowitz (Discussion) 14:24, 19 August 2012 (UTC)
SVG
[edit]I uploaded SVG versions of the png images, but the Commons created uselessly coarse files as the default. How do I link to the clean images (of which the sharpest uses less memory than the coarsest PNG file)? Thanks! Kiefer.Wolfowitz (Discussion) 15:02, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
Outstanding work
[edit]Hi Mjchael I saw your outstanding work here on the wiki project. I'm trying to do a similar work on the Italian wikibook. I hope you'll keep guitar images coming as they're very useful for everybody. A million thanks. --Elenaf (talk) 09:56, 6 December 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for the flowers! I'll keep an eye on your work. I can almost absolutely no Italian, but maybe I can take over some ideas from your book. Feel free to use my work, translate it, ask me for some help, take over some useful templates, take over some of my prepared songs, midis, pictures, pdf (For that I made a separate songbook.) and so on. If you find some new example, give me a hint. Or if you paint an own picture , maybe I can use it as well. Take a look at the concept of my book! http://de.wikibooks.org/wiki/Gitarre:_Projektseite maybe it will be a help. Good luck with your project! --Mjchael (talk) 11:31, 6 December 2012 (UTC)
Thanks Mjchael it's kind of you. I'm going to give you two links of mine: the one here for my images in wikimedia http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:ListFiles/Elenaf and the other one for my wikibook (not only mine): http://it.wikibooks.org/wiki/Chitarra so that maybe we can exchange images and all that. You'll see that I used many of your files. I unfortunately don't speak German either but I let Google help me with the translation. Where can I find your songbook? --Elenaf (talk) 09:17, 7 December 2012 (UTC)
Chords
[edit]Hi MJchael, I was wondering if you can upload an empty template for chords as I like the ones in your German book. Are you modifying the file with Gimp? Thanks a lot for an answer. --Elenaf (talk) 08:31, 23 April 2013 (UTC)
- Click on a chord. Note the link to the file. The ending is SVG! Download the file. It's w:Vector_graphics. Edit it with w:Inkscape. Rename the file (crd_name_fingering.svg). Look at the category for example. Note the color scheme! (see: Category:Chords_in_guitar_svg) Copy the description of the file from other chords, and adjusts it. If you download you very similar chords, then it should be very easy to double, move, delete or recolor a single finger. Simply post new chords on my user page, so I can take it over the German Guitar-Wikibook. If you disrupt the German fingering, then use the original file, and change only DZMRK (pimaq) to 1234. Greetings --Mjchael (talk) 16:24, 23 April 2013 (UTC)
Help:SVG de belongs to File:Test.svg
-- Perhelion 19:50, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
--Mjchael (talk) 13:07, 20 May 2014 (UTC)
There is an error in the picture: Solstice and Equinox.svg
[edit]Instead of the label 'Ecliptic' you should use 'Equator'. The Sun is always on the ecliptic but only during equinoxes it is on the equator.
Piotr (e-mail: piotr@dybczynski.pl)
Not seen from our point of view. I as well as the original author meant the ecliptic. It remains the ecliptic, regardless of whether it is at the winter solstice, the spring solstice or at the equinox. That the sun walks on equinox over the equator should be in the text, not in the picture. Mjchael (talk) 11:49, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
