Hello Slaunger,

I uploaded a higher resolution of the image that you like (from the refugees from the detention center in Fylakio). If you speak Dutch language there is an article from Belgium Ondergronds Griekenland in drie stappen with similar photo with mine. The guy in the center of my photo is to the left (the one with the orange shirt). I was together with that journalist when I shot this photo. Ggia (talk) 19:35, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

Thanks a lot. I appreciate your effords in finding the negative again. I just downloaded it and had a look at it. There seems to be some defects, especially in the lower left corner. I could give it a try with restoring that, although I have not tried that before. I think that should be addressed prior to nomination. --Slaunger (talk) 20:07, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

The image is already processed by me.. it is not the raw data file from the scanner.. if you observe.. layers-masks has been applied in some part of the image.. i.e. the fence outside the faces of the refugees it is a little bit darker due to the mask-layer. This image if you print out ie. lambda b&w print you have acceptable results (quality speaking) -- I didn't print it but I know it from other prints. Ggia (talk) 20:44, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

It is different kinds of issues I have noticed: Small white spots, which may be due to dust or other kind of contamination on the negative. I have taken the liberty to mark the most noticeable ones with annotations on the file page. I am interested to hear your opinion about the origin of those? I am inclined to think some image healing/restorarttion could be applied to those small defects. I could try an make a restored version and upload it, such that you can see the difference. These dust spots arrives in every image I scan. Some of them are dust inside the elements of the scanner, some of them sticked on the emulsion of the film - sometimes are the defects on the film made due to the film developing. Usually the major dust spots I remove them.. in this part where too many.. some of them where removed but I was too lazy to do it for every dust spot. Usually when I print images like that, these dust spots give you the film feeling over the image - and are not so bad aesthetically. ie. I had friend in the past that when they were trying to develop photos in the dark rooms they were trying to add more dust over the negative so the developed image to have old b&w photo look. OK, thanks for the explanation. Being a pedantic, I will probably try to remove the remaining dust spots. Maybe this evening, if I get the time. I will upload it under a new file name and link to your upload as the original. I do not think that will compromise the B&W idea to make this small restoration:-) The idea should be that the photo information is in the grain, but I do not see any reason to deliberately add further defects - it is, after all not an old historical photo, but a 2010 photo. --Slaunger (talk) 09:43, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

I've downloaded it and started restoring it. It is good zen after debugging a C++ program. I've just installed GIMP on an 8 GB Core i7 laptop / with a 64 bit OS and 250 GB SDD. That should do... I am primarily using the heal tool, and I am very careful, what I am doing. Being a pedantic, it will take a while... :-). --Slaunger (talk) 22:21, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

Hallo Slaunger, vielen Dank für deine schnelle Reaktion und dein großzügiges Entgegenkommen. Ich hoffe jetzt nur, dass die IP noch einmal guckt, nachdem man ihr gesagt hat, wie schwierig die Sache sein kann, wenn man die Regeln genau einhalten soll. Dein Deutsch ist übrigens prima (ich kann nur ein wenig Schwedisch und sonst aus dem hohen Norden nur ein paar Wörter Estnisch) - und deine Fotos sind hervorragend. In den Commons und einigen Wikis verwende ich, nebenbei gesagt, diesen Account, weil Liesbeth nach der Einführung von SUL teilweise schon vergeben war. Yes, eight family members will come and visit us for xmas eve, in a newly renovated house! On the menu: Duck and a pseudofrench desert: da:Ris à l'amande, which is a type of riz au lait with whipped cream and almonds folded in and then with hot cherry or strawberry sauce! • I did notice the Upernavik cemetery made it through to FP, which is a happy ending to the saga. I don't know if your daughter's father would like to now the "how" of "how did he do that?" but in case... It's simply a long exposure shot with rear curtain sync flash to freeze the people. I set the exposure to something like 10sec so people have time draw letters, and flash is directed toward ceiling and manually set strong enough to lit the whole scene. How strong the flash should be is guessed from trial and errors... Camera is mounted on a tripod of course ;) - Benh (talk) 22:07, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
