Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Gracias chamo por tu comentario respecto a la fotografía de las Aguilas del Zulia vs Leones. Respondiendo a tu pregunta, he usado un software libre llamado GIMP para corregir algunos desperfectos de la foto, pero como es de notar, quizás la corrección de ruido ha sido demasiado fuerte. No tengo mucha experiencia corrigiendo desperfectos en las fotos. Es posible que el principal problema sea la cámara que no es profesional. Tengo una Canon SX30 IS, considero que la calidad de sus fotos no es lo suficientemente buenas como para subirlas a FPC. Por otro lado, este Sabado subiré al pico Humboldt y Bolivar, por consiguiente, me gustaría escuchar recomendaciones tuyas para realizar mejores trabajos fotográficos o algún material que pueda leer antes de salir. A partir do momento que tem essa categoria, também tem implicitamente todas as categorias onde essa categoria está incluída. Caso contrário a categoria "Towers" teria milhares de imagens, tal como categoria "Europa" ou mesmo "Portugal". Assim fica a categoria exacta para a foto. • Yes; I noticed the huge damages when viewed large. Unfortunately I know little photoshop so depending picasa now. Now for the time being, I undo it and do a little sharpening in NeatImage while removing the noice. Is NeatImage also making same damages as picasa? Por otro lado, Me ha llamado más la atención, desde que me hiciste aquellas recomendaciones sobre la imagen del partido de baseball, incursionar en la mejor manera de retocar las fotos. Tengo una cámara Canon SX30 IS, es una cámara reciente pero de un sensor pequeño, es una puente, uso CHDK para poder generar los RAW, esos raw los lanza con demasiado ruido y además de la distorsión del lente, no tengo manera de poder eliminar ese ruido, quería preguntarte cuál es la mejor herramienta que conoces para la eliminación de ruido. He bajado lightroom como me lo recomendaste, sin embargo, aún no me acostumbro a sus controles, tengo años usando GIMP para editar las imágenes, pero, desgraciadamente no acepta imágenes en formato RAW. Algunas mejoras

Hoy me dediqué a prestarle especial atención al lanzamiento del ipad 3, digo lightroom 4, jeje. Me llamó bastante la atención su herramienta de balance de blancos con el que se logran aspectos increíbles, casi mágicos. Tengo tiempo trabajando en las imágenes que ya había subido a commons, sin embargo, son retoques a los JPG y como bien sabes esos retoques son destructivos a las fotos. El CHDK me saca fotos CR2 y con un pequeño script del mismo CHDK me saca fotos DNG que son las que abría con lightroom 3. En gimp para la eliminación de ruido usaba generalmente desenfoque gausiano selectivo, pero con resultados deplorables. Uno de los problemas que tengo es poder sacar la cámara por allí libremente para tomar fotos, es algo que me frena bastante a la hora de salir por motivos de inseguridad, es cuestión de inventar un mecanismo que me permita salir tranquilamente, he pensado en llevar una vianda o bolsa de comida, esa fue la razón principal de comprar esta cámara con un zoom de 35X para poder esconderme y tomar las fotos sin que nadie me vea. Voy a salir una de estas tardes y haré un trabajo especial para que veas el ruido, un abrazo amigo. --The Photographer (talk) 20:53, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

Butterflies matting

Nothing personal in my opposing vote.

I just think there are too many butterflies pictures in FPC page at the moment. (Like every year during northern hemisphere spring...)

Anyway, after reflexion, I agree with you, it is nor a very valid neither a strong argument to oppose.

As I'm thinking I'm slowly becaming a "sacred cow" myself...;))) I understand very well what you mean. I could agree.

But sometimes I support Llez shells, or Archaeodontosaurus animals, because I think they are extraordinary pictures, technically speaking, I'm not able to take.

As maybe you have seen, I try to upload many different pictures, with many different subjects, even maybe a bit too historical...

Generally speaking, when I'm not interested by a matter, I don't vote. This morning I did wrongly...

Thank you very much for the help. Yes; small sensor cameras have so many limitations that are revealed when we use them to their limits (Carschten is very right). I will go for a DSLR sooner or later; but continue transferring the existing files from Flickr because there are not enough species photos here. And in a DSLR, I think we need separate lens for small, medium and large subjects; so the investment may heavy. :(

Saludos, te cuento que el viaje que hice fue una de las experiencias más increíbles por no decir la más increíble que he vivido,. He tenido la oportunidad de visitar varios lugares, ninguno puede ser comparado con el Bolívar. Me llevé mi cámara como era de esperarse sin embargo, era tal la belleza del lugar que no tomé casi fotografías y me la pasaba todo el día maravillado observando (Sin contar que no realicé los ajustes necesarios antes de viajar como configuraciones de exposición para el clima nublado o muy soleado). Las noches son increíbles, el cielo se ve como si estuvieras en el espacio cuando superas los 4700 msnm. Es interesante ver como la naturaleza cambia a medida que se va ascendiendo, encima de los 4800 casi no existe vegetación ni fauna, sin embargo, se ven cosas tan raras, especies totalmente endémicas de pájaros, insectos y hasta una raza de roedores no documentada, árboles de frailejon de más de 400 años. Puedo pasar todo el día comentandote y no lograría definir ni en lo más mínimo de lo que allí se vive. Yo nunca había subido ni el ávila en mi primer viaje, nunca había ido a Mérida (La ciudad), lo más alto que estuve antes de subir fue Caracas. El viaje es duro, sin embargo, totalmente factible si se toman las previciones como llevar las medias adecuadas, chaqueta; por los implementos no te preocupes que se pueden alquilar, así uno se ahorra tener que comprar eso que solo lo usarás específicamente. He logrado encontrar una excelente alpinissta, guía y rescatista, ha guiado a infinidades de grupos, ella me ha comentado que puedo darte su telf para que la llames y te explique con más detalle 04247049274. Hola Paolo, Saludos desde Maracaibo, la tierra del sol amada. He estado subiendo algunas fotos nuevas a commons con mi humilde camarita. Recuerdo haber tomado una en un sitio en donde nos quedamos barados, en una posición que dudo mucho que alguien mas se atreva a tomar una foto allí, no la mires a full resolución, es algo decepcionante. Por otro lado, logre que una foto mía de baja resolución fuera bien votada en commons, sencillamente les dije la verdad, me costo reunir mucho para la cámara y ademas pase todo un día a pleno sol escondido en un monte, al parecer eso sumo muchos votos, aunque no estoy muy conforme, una foto debería hablar por si misma. Por otra parte, he visto a un usuario nuevo en commons de qui de Maracaibo subiendo fotos y creo que ya ha subido mas videos que cualquiera, sin embargo, es bueno entender que la cantidad no es igual a la calidad y es algo que he venido últimamente poniendo mas cuidado, siguiendo tu ejemplo. Tengo tiempo con fotos con mucho ruido, me acorde de tu consejo acerca de lightroom y mas aun con el casi milagroso quitador de ruido de la nueva versión 4 de lightroom, sin embargo, uso linux y aqui solo tenemos a darktable. Yo apenas voy cerca de las 10 imágenes destacadas, aunque algo me dice que con un viajesito que me eche a la Gran Sabana con los lentes adecuados será suficiente para al menos 5 destacadas. Ahorita estoy encargado del Wiki Love Monuments, un grupo de usuarios de Wikipedia que somos de Venezuela, estamos haciendo la lista de los estados que posteriormente serán plasmadas en la Wiki para iniciar el concurso en nuestro país. Si deseas participar, puedes tomar algún PDF y comenzar a agregar los monumentos construidos a la matriz en su hoja correspondiente, colándote como responsable, algunos Estados ya han sido tomados por otros amigos de la wiki. Wiki Loves Monuments es una competencia de fotografía en la cual los participantes deben captar imágenes de monumentos y subirlas a Wikimedia Commons con una licencia libre para posteriormente crear artículos para Wikipedia. Es una pena, pero también una invitación para hacer buenas fotos, te queda un mes entero prácticamente. Espero verte más a menudo incluso luego del concurso. Todas las fotos las he tomado y subido durante el tiempo del concurso, algunas aparecen con fechas de toma vieja porque la camara tenia la fecha equivocada y solo me di cuenta hasta después, aunque esto no es penado por el concurso. Pudieron haberse tomado en cualquier momento, lo importante es que las subas durante ese lapso. Espero que mi participación estimule la sana competencia, por cierto, La Usuaria @Beria: es mi esposa y fui yo quien le dijo para que esté pendiente del concurso, ella también se ha animado a participar. Con respecto a las fotos con tilde político, considero que estas situaciones pudieran resultar interesantes para algún grupo minoritario de turistas. Hace algún tiempo que no se nada de ti, y esta situación no se si tenga que ver conmigo o lo sucedido en el Concurso de Wikimedia Viajes Venezuela. Yo quiero expresar mi rechazo a la organización de este evento, en la manera de como fueron seleccionadas las fotos, cosa que reclamé y por ende fuí bloqueado en Wikipedia en Español. Del mismo modo, yo quería pedirte disculpas si en algún momento, en cualquier situación, pude haber hecho algo que ocasionó tu partida de Wikimedia Commons.
