Your Stained Glass Window Image

Hello. I am interested in using your photograph of the high priest in the stained glass window of the church in Ireland for a book that is being published. May I contact you with the details via e-mail? Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.144.182.113 (talk • contribs) 03:37, 21 January 2016‎ (UTC)

Hi, I assume you are refering to File:Ballymote Church of the Immaculate Conception South Aisle The Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Right Window Detail Kohen Gadol 2010 09 23.jpg. You are free to use this photograph for your book, provided you credit it to “Andreas F. Borchert” and you name one of its free licenses, i.e. Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Germany. You are also free to contact me by email. You'll find my email address at this page in the upper right corner (below “Kontakt”). Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 07:16, 21 January 2016 (UTC)

Could you re-review? Template:PD-Ottoman says that the successor country laws - Turkey - matter here. Adam Cuerden (talk) 15:08, 26 January 2016 (UTC)

Hi Adam Cuerden, the problem is that {{PD-Ottoman}} was changed without updating COM:CRT#Ottoman Empire which is the natural first reference in such cases. This was discussed at Commons:Village pump/Copyright/Archive/2012/08#PD-Ottoman Empire. I even participated in that discussion but I did not remember that when I closed the DR. I've limited time in the moment but I will reconsider this DR as soon as I have time, either late at this evening or tomorrow. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 15:34, 26 January 2016 (UTC)

File:Greek Head of a woman DMA loan 62-2009-6.jpg

Hi, I am interested by using one of your picture, a head in the Dallas Museum, for a publication in Libyan Studies. Is it possible ? I will of course quote your name in the credits. Thanks you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Theuchrestos (talk • contribs) 12:41, 10 February 2016‎ (UTC)

Hi Theuchrestos, the photo File:Greek Head of a woman DMA loan 62-2009-6.jpg was not taken by me but by FA2010 who put it in the public domain. Hence, you can use this photo in any way you want. If you want to attribute it, you should attribute it to FA2010. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 12:48, 10 February 2016 (UTC)

Re: Your candidacy as admin

Hi AFBorchert, thank so mucho for taking the time to review my candidature, the community has spoken again and I humbly accept the results, I am very happy to have heard all the opinions, good and bad. I have valued the negative comments with references because that help me improve as a user and as a person in my real life and I think that some negative comments have been of great value to improve my assertiveness and also I must learn to manage emotions and to not address any lack of respect for people here. I feel very sad about the result, however, Now I have extra time to devote to other things :). Thanks again. --The Photographer (talk) 01:46, 1 March 2016 (UTC)

Thank you for your message, I use it during the Wiki Loves Monuments/Earth. I will check if I need it for next WIki Loves Earth. Kind regards. --Ilario (talk) 14:29, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

A quick note while away

I'm away for almost one month as my wife is suffering for Endometrial stromal sarcoma, metastasis. I was aware that my name is mentioned at Commons:Administrators/Requests/The Photographer and was accused for "This user deserved so much more than that, he insulted someone in my family out of the wiki." I didn't want to complain as I/we are suffering much more than that at that time (and still in the regional cancer centre). I hoped such discussion will die and people move on. But sadly, I just saw repeated related discussions, edit-wars, and more bad faith accusations are going on. I still prefer not to comment. But now it looks like the initial disturbance is neglected and seems proceeding for one sided sanctions. If true, it is terribly sad and unhelpful to the well being or the community. The better option is to ask both sides to step back. Just my thoughts; I've no time or mood to interfere. And I've no formal complaints to the one who accused me though "[I] insulted someone in my family out of the wiki" is unfounded. Jee 04:33, 15 March 2016 (UTC)

My images contributions

Dear AFBorchert,

I trust you're fine. Thank you for deleting the files. I am very grateful. I misunderstood images licensing in the past but now I have a better understanding of how things work. I want to learn. Could you please allow me to be under your tutelage for some months/year? Thanks in advance.Wikicology (talk) 17:00, 12 May 2016 (UTC)

Hi Wikicology, you are very much welcome to ask for help at my talk page whenever you need help. However, please be aware that occasionally I am quite busy in my professional life and in each year there is a time span where I stay in Ireland with very limited Internet connectivity. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 17:55, 12 May 2016 (UTC)
Thank you so much, AFBorchert. Anytime I don't hear from you, I will understand that its due to limited internet connectivity. Warm regards. Wikicology (talk) 18:31, 12 May 2016 (UTC)

I need Help

Hi AFBorchert, I trust you're fine. I want some of my deleted images restored. I told the photographer that took the images that he need to contact Common OTRS for the images to be undeleted. Please, what will Common OTRS need if the original photographer uses a Gmail/Yahoo/Hotmail email address. Thank you. Wikicology (talk) 14:30, 17 May 2016 (UTC)

Hi Wikicology, the photographer should contact permissions-commons@wikimedia.org with following contents:
  • all the files for which a permission is given shall be attached, if possible using original files generated by the camera with full EXIF data (usually we expect the names at Commons but as the files are deleted now, this would be hard to verify for the photographer)
  • a declaration of consent from Commons:Email templates#E-mail template for release of rights to a file should be copied into the email and adapted:
  • choice of free license by the copyright holder: the template suggests Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International but any other free license conforming to COM:L may be chosen as well
  • the credit line of the attribution, i.e. how would the photographer like to be named (any name is possible, e.g. real name, nick name, organizational name, or staying anonymous),
  • a notice that the images were already uploaded and deleted at Commons with reference to Wikicology (support team members who are also Commons admins can browse through your deleted contributions and find the initial upload).
The photographer should be prepared to receive and answer possible questions in follow-up emails. All email addresses are fine provided the files have been published nowhere else. In case of publications elsewhere, the photographer shall refer to them giving URLs. Further instructions would then follow whenever an initial contact has been made. --AFBorchert (talk) 18:37, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
Thank you so much. This is very helpful information and I am giving it to the photographer. It was very, very nice for you to explain this to me. Warm regards. Wikicology (talk) 06:05, 18 May 2016 (UTC)

Wiki Joachim Kretzer

Lieber AFBorchert,

Joachim Kretzer — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.172.71.229 (talk • contribs) 16:32, 14 June 2016‎ (UTC)

Was halten Sie von File:Joachim Kretzer 2016.jpg?
Viele Grüße, AFBorchert (talk) 17:28, 14 June 2016 (UTC)

Help with deleted files

Hi AFBorchet,

How are you today? I trust you're fine. Could you please restore these deleted files, File:Adekunle Ajasin Senate Building.jpg and File:Ighare Iloro.jpg? I am the owner of the files. I took the images with my device. Thank you. Wikicology (talk) 20:37, 23 July 2016 (UTC)

Hi Wikicology, undeletions should be requested at COM:UDEL as undeletions (much like non-speedy deletions) are usually processes which are open for participation by the community including other admins. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 20:53, 23 July 2016 (UTC)

Category:Cueva Charles Brewer

Hallo AFBorchert,

I have recently had my wrist slapped for adding to a DR after closure, so I'm taking the long way around. In view of Jcb's comment that there is no source for publication, you might add that the Canadian rule is that all photographs taken before 1/1/1949 are PD. Without that, many might wonder why a 1915 image with no proof of publication is PD. .     Jim . . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 13:34, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

Hi Jameslwoodward, you are raising an important point. Thank you, for addressing this. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 14:16, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

Deletion :File:Rus-1113-1194.png and two others

Entschuldigen Sie bitte, but three maps you recently deleted (Rus-1113-1194, Rus-1389, Rus-1389-lg) had the underlying (geographical) base map created by me on base of data from OpenStreetMaps exactly according to your recommendations. Unfortunately I used usual but possibly misleading abbreviation OSM in my answer. By using "printed maps" I meant just consulting them in complex cases like finding out the position of certain populated places, swamps, names of rivers ans so on. None of the deleted maps are derived from copyrighted maps. I'm ready to document this in full detail in description for each map. Bearing this in mind, could you undelete those files or should I add a formal Undeletion request? --Koryakov Yuri (talk) 10:56, 15 October 2016 (UTC)

Hi Koryakov Yuri, please file an undeletion request for them that elaborates from which sources and how your maps were derived from. You should explain from which the coast lines, frontiers etc. where derived (preferably by linking to the corresponding maps of OpenStreetMap) and then be willing to adhere to the copyright and license of OpenStreetMap. When printed maps were used for anything, you should explain what has been used and provide a bibliographic reference to the printed map. Once the files are undeleted, you should update the source description accordingly and take care of the OpenStreetMap license. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 13:12, 15 October 2016 (UTC)
Sorry, help us undeletion request, we don't understand all Commons formalities. Thousands readers of Wikipedia are waiting for these maps. There are no doubts, Koryakov Yuri is professional author of all these maps. Thanks. — Yuriy V Dzyadyk (tc), 13:51, 24 October 2016 (UTC).

Normandie and Basse-Normandie

Sorry for my very bad english. Regions of France are changing. It is usefull to have old (ie Bassse-Normandie here) and new categories (Normandie here) at the same time during this (long?) change. We have to make sure that no mistakes are done in moving categories (ie verify by other users). It is also the case for other categories and other regions of France. But "Basse Normandie" will desapear as soon as possible. Kind regards.Palamède (talk) 06:49, 2 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi Palamède, I've continued the discussion at your talk page. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 19:30, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
Bonjour.

Bonne continuation.Palamède (talk) 07:52, 3 November 2016 (UTC)

Thanks and sorry.

Gruss sarang사랑 11:05, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

Generosity Crowdfunding Campaign for User:The Photographer

Please excuse me spamming you, which concerns Generosity Crowdfunding Campaign. My contributions cover the architecture and culture of Brazil and Venezuela. I has basic photographic equipment: an old D300 camera and 35mm lens, and it is very expensive for me to acquire this equipment. I has recently taken several images using the technique where multiple frames are stitched together to create a high-resolution panorama. However, many times frustrated with the stitching errors that result from trying to take such photos without a proper panoramic head for his tripod. This special equipment permits the camera to be rotated around the entrance pupil of the lens, and eliminates such errors. Having a panoramic head would greatly increase the potential for The Photographer to create sharp high-resolution images for Commons. In addition, the purchase of a camera with a fisheye lens would enable 180 × 360° panoramas to be taken, which are a great way to explore a scene as though one is really there.

Please see the discussion about the Crowd-funding campaign on User talk:The Photographer#Generosity Crowdfunding Campaign and visit the Generosity Crowd-funding Campaign page to consider donating. Even a modest donation will make a difference if many people contribute. Thanks. --The Photographer 13:44, 23 November 2016 (UTC)
