Kilnaughton, Islay, is a geographic location on the lower slopes of Beinn Leathaig on the west shore of Kilnaughton Bay. It is separated from Imeraval, Islay, to the northeast, by the Kilnaughton River, flowing down Cornabus Burn to enter the bay on the north of Kilnaughton Beach. Above the beach is Creag Neachtain, a knoll of Beinn Leathaig. Over the area are three distinct groups of memorials and ruins: the ruin of Kilnaughton Chapel (from which comes the name, Kilnaughton), and the Old Cemetery (or Graveyard or Churchyard); the New Cemetery on Creag Neachtain; and Kilnaughton Military Cemetery downslope from the new. The walled, rectangular Military Cemetery is nearly empty, the American remains of casualties from the sinking of the Tuscania in 1918 having been removed to their native land. At the foot of Creag Neachtain is a partially restored, unknown chapel.
