Deutsch: La Chaux-de-Fonds (wörtlich übersetzt der Kalkgrund) ist eine politische Gemeinde und Hauptort des gleichnamigen Distrikts im Kanton Neuenburg in der Schweiz. Die grösste Stadt des Hochjuras und drittgrösste Stadt der Romandie liegt auf rund 1000 Meter über Meer und ist damit eine der höchstgelegenen Städte Europas. Sie gehört neben Biel/Bienne und Le Locle zu den bekanntesten Uhrenstädten der Schweiz. Dennoch hat sie mit dem ausgedehnten, nur sehr dünn besiedelten Umland einen gewissen ruralen Charakter behalten können, was ihr auch den Namen Ville à la campagne (Stadt auf dem Land) eintrug. Ende Juni 2009 wurde La Chaux-de-Fonds zusammen mit Le Locle zum UNESCO-Welterbe erklärt.
English: La Chaux-de-Fonds is the capital city of the district of La Chaux-de-Fonds in the canton of Neuchâtel in Switzerland. It is located in the Jura mountains at an altitude of 1000 m, a few kilometers from the French border. After Geneva and Lausanne, it is the third largest city in the French-speaking part of Switzerland.
Esperanto: La Chaux-de-Fonds estas la plej granda urbo de la svisa Kantono Neŭŝatelo kaj ĉefurbo de la samnoma distrikto. En 2009 la urbo estis kune kun Le Locle nomita kiel kulturheredaĵo de UNESKO. La urbo povas esti konsiderata kiel Esperanto-ĉefurbo de Svislando. Ĝi estas la sidejo de diversaj gravaj Esperanto-institucioj kun nacia kaj internacia signifo kaj renomo kiel CDELI, Kultura Centro Esperantista kaj Svisa Esperanto-Societo.
Français : La Chaux-de-Fonds est une commune politique et le chef-lieu du district du même nom dans le canton de Neuchâtel en Suisse. C'est la plus grande ville du Jura et troisième ville de Suisse romande. Elle est située à environ 1000 mètres d'altitude, ce qui en fait l'une des villes les plus hautes d'Europe. Elle fait partie, avec Bienne et Le Locle, des villes horlogères les plus connues de Suisse. Cependant, elle a su conserver un certain caractère rural grâce à ses environs très peu peuplés. La Chaux-de-Fonds a été inscrite en juin 2009, avec Le Locle, au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO.
