Any photo in this category that was taken inside the stadium for the Opening Ceremonies that has a commercial license is a copyright violation, no matter what the other information says. Rules for the use of short extracts for news reporting applicable for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games and Rules for the use of short extracts for news reporting applicable for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games both make it clear that these images cannot be used commercially. It doesn't matter what the stock photo disclaimer says on the website host.

They have held photographer briefings and there are signs around the media areas for the 2016 Paralympic Games that make abundantly clear that images ca only be used for editorial purposes and cannot be used commercially. This information is stated on each photographer's media accreditation tag.

Any image taken at these locations with a commercial license is problematic. They are copyright violations because the people licensing the images do not have the rights to release them commercially. I'm in Rio. I have great images from the Games, but I can only upload them if I behave unethically and violate these rules. These rules suck so hard core for me it is unbelievable. While I follow them though, people upload these images to Commons. It makes it hard to develop partnerships and relationships and act as a change agent when Commons is doing this.

These images really need to be deleted for the copyvios they are. --LauraHale (talk) 16:16, 9 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Laura, there seems a real problem with the copyright situation inside the Paralympics. We should clear it up, as far as possible, or ask for additional OTRS-Help (some of the photos are used in Wikipedia-articles, like en:2016 Summer Paralympics opening ceremony (not only there!), or have been used even in the en-main-page. Make contact to Wikimedia-Brazil to ask for help and get allowance of the 'International Paralympic Committee' (IPC) for some photos? Is there a special agreement with Agência-Brasil for photos, taken from far away? --LudwigSebastianMicheler (talk) 14:19, 10 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry LauraHale, I fail to see the copyright violation. First, the links you provide do not deal with photography, but video and social media usage. Secondly, even if there is such a policy set by the IPC I fail to see how it binds the Wikimedia Foundation. The copyrights to the picture are with the photographer and as long as the holder of these rights licensed the pictures accordingly there can be no copyright violation.
The supposed violation of a contract between the photographer and the IPC should not be our concern. Chico Venancio (talk) 00:17, 11 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
