The scope of this category may be unclear. What is the difference between this and Category:Old dogs? Also, all dogs are aging in the sense that they are getting older. Auntof6 (talk) 04:48, 25 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Auntof6: Indeed, all dogs are aging, as are we all, one would presume, so this would seem an unneccessary category. However, it was probably meant to indicate either dogs of a sufficiently advanced age, or dogs showing signs of aging. Perhaps Category:Dogs showing signs of aging would be useful, but probably need to be broken into the different signs, such as the existing Category:Dogs with facial graying. However, the current category shows no idea of how to determine what goes there. On the other hand, if it is merely dogs which are of a certain age, having a Category:Dogs by age category will work better for that. In any case I would suggest replacing this unclear category with something better defined. Josh (talk) 21:58, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Auntof6: This category title parallels Category:Aging cats (there is no Category:Old cats). However, there's a Category:Old horses (but not Aging). In looking at Old Cats category, they're all there because they're old, but in addition one is shown being treated for an ailment that's somewhat common in aging cats (although can happen in cats for many reasons, so could just go under the appropriate cat medical category). I browsed several of the dogs in this category and they, also, all appear to be here because they're old, although many images say nothing about age (but might have white muzzles... or not). The only item here that really should be under Aging Dogs is the chart showing relative aging. But that could go under some other dog category... not sure which (didn't look). For the most part, "old dogs" and "old cats" seem like they would be the more appropriate titles, especially since all of these fall into the Category:Old animals. If we want to do that, should ping the aging cat community, too. (On the third hand, there are a lot more dogs in this category than in Old Dogs... just a thought) Elf (talk) 01:01, 16 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

stale discussion.  Delete the nominated category. Sidenotice: Category:Old dogs should have a hatnote, which clarifies which dog is an old dog (see hatnote eg Category:Old horses)--Estopedist1 (talk) 12:55, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Redirecting to Category:Old dogs (category currently in use and has existed here since 2008, so redirecting at least for now seems better than deleting IMO). There is no hatnote at Old dogs, but feel free to add such if you think it useful. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 15:06, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
