copyright/

Hello, I would like to upload some pictures to my page in Wikimedia Commons to be used on one of my Wikipedia article. These pictures are published on line at http://ipd-ssi.hr/?page_id=4769. I believe that this is a free to use website. When I clicked the Icon in the address page and in the scroll it has permission by default. If I can use these web page pictures what licence should I use? Thank you for the help and any other information would be helpful. Jvdobrich (talk) 00:45, 29 July 2013 (UTC)

Does it say anywhere explicitly that the pictures are free in the Commons sense? By default, the copyright of a photograph is owned by the photographers or their heirs. It can be free as it passes into the public domain after some time (see copyright rules for Croatia) or the copyright holder puts it under a free license. You can ask the makers of the website for copyright information about certain images to be sure. --rimshottalk 20:03, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

Cannot find existing file?

Tried to upload a new file. Got the error message: "There is [/wiki/File:Amphoe_Sukhothai.svg another file] already on the wiki with the same filename" But I cannot find this file. What to do?? --hdamm (talk) 09:57, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

My filename is Amphoe Sukhothai.svg There is already a file with the name Amphoe Sukhothai.png This was no problem in the past - see in Category:Maps of Ang Thong with Amphoe Ang Thong.svg AND also Amphoe Ang Thong.png which are two different fles. --hdamm (talk) 10:21, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
That's bugzilla:46741. I'm afraid the answer to "what to do" is: wait until a developer takes the time to undo or improve this software change. LX (talk, contribs) 12:41, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
Too bad. Thanks anyway for the clarification LX. --hdamm (talk) 13:14, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
As for the wrong display message, this is bugzilla:47935. -- Rillke(q?) 23:39, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

Upload Wizard stuck at "Release rights"

I've previously uploaded dozens of files using Upload Wizard, but today it's not working. After completing the "Release rights" stage, I hit the "Next" button in the lower right corner and nothing happens. Is this a known issue? Thanks. Levdr1lp / talk 17:26, 3 August 2013 (UTC)

The problem is only occurring when I select "This file is not my own work". Levdr1lp / talk 17:30, 3 August 2013 (UTC)

Uploading a jpg file fails

I cannot upload a jpg file. The error message says that the file might be corrupted or the setting must be wrong. The file is 223 KB, size 990 × 748, resolution 95. What is wrong here? Thanks for your help! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Katwrobl (talk • contribs) 18:10, 4 August 2013‎ (UTC)

Looks like something is wrong with the file itself. Opening it with an image processing software (like GIMP or photoshop) and then saving it as a new file might repair it. Cheers, --El Grafo (talk) 10:47, 5 August 2013 (UTC)

flickr upload stopped

When the filename suggested by the Flickr upload wizard was fed to the general Commons upload system, the latter didn't like it. If you copy the suggested filename here, we may be able to figure out what the problem is. AnonMoos (talk) 07:28, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

Permissions for uploaded files

I just uploaded File:Tzeporah-kk-1.jpg to Commons. Documenting permissions is something that I'm not clear on. I received an email permission from the author and included that in the description. Is that acceptable? Sunray (talk) 19:20, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi, see Commons:OTRS: Please forward the email with the permission to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org – they'll put the appropriate boxes/templates on the file description page and contact you if anything is missing. Cheers, --El Grafo (talk) 20:51, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

CAn I post a picture of myself from my website?

would this http://www.redmannlaw.com/Attorneys/John-W-Redmann.shtml photo be something i could post as my picture for the wiki page?

The photographer is usually the copyright holder. See: Commons:OTRS. For pictures from the net we need email permission.--Canoe1967 (talk) 21:03, 14 August 2013 (UTC)

Help with scans of military records

I've uploaded scans that I did of a few military records (separation papers, etc.) of en:Charles Durning, obtained from the National Archives. I tagged them as my own work in the wizard, because I'm the guy that "photographed" them, but that's not the complete story. How are they to be tagged? Suggested categories? (P.S. The upload wizard inserted a spurious {{Location dec|0|0}} in all of the file pages. Location coords are not relevant to these docs.) Thanks. (edited) —[AlanM1(talk)]— 01:31, 29 July 2013 (UTC)

Use {{PD-USGov}}... -- AnonMoos (talk) 02:53, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
Just a follow-up, if I may: The paperwork is originally military, photocopied or printed from a scan by the NPRC to send to us, then scanned and adjusted/sharpened/cropped, etc. by me. The NPRC step made no real change, other than to maybe degrade quality somewhat. My work was a bit more involved, choosing the required resolution, filtering, cropping, redaction of some sensitive info etc. I therefore tagged it with {{PD-USGov-Military}} and then {{self|cc-by-sa-3.0}} to sort-of track the chain of licensing. Does that make sense? —[AlanM1(talk)]— 21:52, 5 August 2013 (UTC)

Before being blocked this user deleted a discussion thread: Diff showing deleted thread. I do not know if this is an ok way to file (the discussion can be found in the page history) or if the discussion page should be changed so the thread can be archived the ordinary way?. --  Dyveldi    16:31, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

My pictures were deleted

Hi, I posted some of the pictures taken from my camera. Why were they deleted in the name of copyright violations?

Thanking you Prakash S — Preceding unsigned comment added by Prakash.saivasan (talk • contribs) 17:30, 15 August 2013‎ (UTC)

I'm looking at your upload logs ([1]), and I don't see redlinks on image names... AnonMoos (talk) 00:42, 24 August 2013 (UTC)
@AnonMoos, if you would click on one of them you'd see that they're not deleted yet but flagged as contested deletion or however it is called in English. For me the pictures don't look like he copied them from his camera. --Sevku (talk) 13:47, 24 August 2013 (UTC)

Deleted graphic files I have uploaded

I have uploaded articles about my work but made a mistake and didn't classified them correctly. I understand what I have done wrong (after further reading...), just need the images I have added before to be uploaded again this time according to your requirements. I can't do it because the image files are blocked. Please advise. Michael.haephrati (talk) 19:13, 21 August 2013‎ (UTC)

Looking at your logs, they all appear to have been scans of articles in computing magazines of 10 to 20 years ago. Do you have evidence that you are the copyright holder, or that you have permission from the copyright holders? -- AnonMoos (talk) 00:57, 24 August 2013 (UTC)

Iran's Persian Gulf ports of the State Seal

File:Iran's Persian Gulf ports of the State Seal
Ahmad Khan Daryabeigi

For many years, the government of Iran searched for this seal, which proves that the owner of this seal is the lord of the Persian Gulf. The artifact was discovered in possession of a Russian antiques dealer, whose name is not disclosed in the interest of safety. Iranian government has offered an impressive amount for the seal to be returned to the place where it truly belongs, but antiquarian rejected the offer, justifying his refusal by saying that the relic had come to him from his father. Unfortunately no one knows how his father got possession of this relic. Government of Iran still hope that this relic will be re tuned some day to its home country.--Josef wold (talk) 00:24, 24 August 2013 (UTC)

Here we're more interested in image files, and whether they're appropriately licensed. Do you have a photo of it that you want to upload? Who took that photo? AnonMoos (talk) 00:52, 24 August 2013 (UTC)

Finding image after upload

Hello, I have uploaded an image however, when I have tried to add the image to a page in wikipedia I can't seem to find it file:mskribbon.png. I attempted to re-upload the image and the system has assured me that it already exists. The image can be seen at http://www.mskonlineproject.org/resources.htm . Not sure what I am doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated. MSKVal (talk) 03:01, 25 August 2013 (UTC)

I don't see any problem with the image (though it's quite small, and would appear to be more suitable for use in userboxes than in articles). AnonMoos (talk) 05:57, 25 August 2013 (UTC)

My image was deleted but it is fine to be used

The image file was deleted from this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Martin_(chef) and I'm not allowed to upload it again as it says it has been deleted. I can't provide a link to it as it is now gone.

The picture is owned by the person the Wikipedia page is about and was sent to me to be used. It is fine to be used on Wikipedia as permission has been provided. How can I get it back on the page?

Thanks --PeaGirl (talk) 09:03, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

I don't see any deleted images in your logs. The picture File:James Martin chef picture.jpg is still there, but it's had a tag added questioning its licensing status, which you should attend to... AnonMoos (talk) 17:07, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
The facts so far:
If you have already recieved a permission from the copyright holder (which may or may not be the person depicted in the photograph), you need to forward this permission to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. See Commons:OTRS for details. --El Grafo (talk) 17:20, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

Select files button does possibly not work

where to click

You possibly encounter issues with the file selection button. You can usually bypass this issue by clicking on the top middle area of the button. This is due to bugzilla:53522 where a patch for this issue just needs to be reviewed, merged and deployed. Thank you and sorry for the inconvenience. -- Rillke(q?) 14:11, 29 August 2013 (UTC)

That should be back to work. (Fixed all locally.) -- Rillke(q?) 05:09, 30 August 2013 (UTC)

User_talk:AspieNo1 - still waiting for undeletion of photos

The subject of photos I uploaded, as part of a team effort for the public celibrity profile was confirmed permission given by the subject himself Damon Matthew Wise.

All copyright details, information of origin and how rights were made, bought or given and why has now been uploaded - in detail linking the albums, the location they were on and showing text of the pictures descriptions, dates they were uploaded and their copyright notices (and a hard slug it is) - in the case of many he was the only right-holder or had personal and representative rights as an officer of a charity/non-profit body at the time.

Could you please get those pictures undeleted and the others threatened from deletion securely protected, so I and the others in the team can work on it, so we can use his own likeness on his profile. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AspieNo1 (talk • contribs) 13:19, 21 August 2013‎ (UTC)

"File:Knot Tied In Space Irish Daily Star 5th September 1994 Pat Flanagan, Irish Daly Mail Monday 5th September 1995.jpg" appears to have been a random recent newspaper photograph, and was deleted for that reason.
"File:Damon Matthew Wise Profile picture.jpg" was deleted with a request for OTRS permission. Note that the permission of the photographer, rather than the permission of the subject of the photograph is what needs to be given in most cases... AnonMoos (talk) 00:50, 24 August 2013 (UTC)

Please release them! Damon Matthew Wise (talk) 07:37, 29 August 2013 (UTC)

Give my image a break, you bunch of morons.

There is nothing unclear about it - I am the only rights holder of my images able to give permission. I have given messages and confirmed permission of images and confirmed the AspieNo1 has my permission to use images in relation to articles about me, the Aspies Movement and anything else - if you have a problem with me giving my permission to social media and Wiki to use my own image, I suggest you me the name and address of a location so I can serve a writ to have you in comtempt of my instructions.

Damon Matthew Wise - the Rights Holder (oh yeah 4 tildas) Damon Matthew Wise (talk) 07:25, 29 August 2013 (UTC)

I asked him here to clarify, as the rights-holder to release his images! AspieNo1 (talk) 08:46, 29 August 2013 (UTC) AspieNo1 (talk) 08:47, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
Whatever -- legal threats are unconstructive (and also pointless, since Commons/Wikipedia is under no obligation to host any images that people submit). At this point, your best bet is probably to go through Commons:OTRS... -- AnonMoos (talk) 15:18, 30 August 2013 (UTC)
