Cross-wiki corporation

[edit]

This is a continuation of the discussion at Commons talk:WikiProject Numismatics#Cross-wiki corporation. - ZLEA T\C 20:10, 13 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@ZLEA: , these pages all look (really) good. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 20:35, 13 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Donald Trung The awards for the contest are finished. What do you think? - ZLEA T\C 00:09, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@ZLEA: , these look awesome. You've done a great job!!! I will take a look below and reply below later. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 17:58, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Donald Trung I've created an invite for the contest here. Feel free to tweak it as you see fit. - ZLEA T\C 14:44, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I actually created this logo in 2017 for a specific taskforce related to the currency of the United States of America (USA). Ahhh, nevermind, I saw that you already know it and have integrated it into a number of (concept) pages.
@ZLEA: It looks great as well, I think that this will be clear enough for English speakers. You should probably also leave it at other highly visible pages like the village pump. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 18:02, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Donald Trung I've added to the invitation to mention the Colonial America, the Confederate States, and the other countries/territories that issued banknotes. If you see a typo or other problem in the invite, feel free to fix them. I will send it in a few hours tomorrow after I find some more potentially interested WikiProjects. - ZLEA T\C 22:24, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Elaborate on the purpose of this contest?

[edit]

The project page doesn't make clear the purpose of this contest, which makes it difficult to determine what is a worthwhile contribution. For example, the Federal Reserve Note categories already contain a number of representative images that predate this contest. What further contributions would be valuable there? —Gordon P. Hemsley 20:32, 20 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@GPHemsley: , well, several large categories such as "Free Banking" banknotes and many local and colonial banknotes are still not represented on Wikimedia Commons. The contest isn't for the banknotes that are already on Wikimedia Commons but for those that are still missing. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 20:36, 20 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm so excited!

[edit]

This is an awesome idea, with wonderful prizes! Thank you so much for all your work on getting this set up. I just hope I can find something worthwhile to contribute!--FeralOink (talk) 21:04, 20 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Commons policy and images of US currency

[edit]

As of this writing, Commons:Currency#United_States_of_America indicates that images of coins and images of banknotes are OK. However, there is a previous revision of Commons:Currency that indicates that images of US banknotes are not OK. In particular, the revision indicates that illustrations versus reproductions of US banknotes are treated differently, and includes a reference to 18 U.S.C. § 474. In addition, there is this previous revision. Clarifying the situation with images of US banknotes, anti-counterfeiting law, and the changes to Commons:Currency for the US would be useful. Thanks. --Gazebo (talk) 09:38, 26 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

In particular, this revision includes the following:
Banknotes
 Not OK
Federal law appears to speak in two directions about the reproduction of banknotes: illustrations and reproductions. "Color illustrations" of banknotes appear to be permitted if they respect the following conditions (from 18 U.S. Code § 504):
  • the illustration is of a size less than three-fourths or more than one and one-half, in linear dimension, of each part of the item illustrated;
  • the illustration is one-sided; and
  • all negatives, plates, positives, digitized storage medium, graphic files, magnetic medium, optical storage devices and any other thing used in the making of the illustration that contain an image of the illustration or any part thereof are destroyed and/or deleted or erased after their final use.
Printed reproductions, "including photographs of paper currency", are violations of 18 U.S.C. § 474. Even through its a non copyright restriction its not allowed on commons
Please use {{PD-USGov-money}} for relevant US currency images.

How is this not spamming?

[edit]

It's awfully extreme to assume that because I live in Ohio -- which for some reason appears to be the excuse for messaging me regarding this -- that I have an interest in adding to this topic. I have never posted nor, as far as I can recall, even just edited on the subject of paper currency at any level beyond correcting a typographical error. You should not have added me to any banknote contest list without my permission, and I should not have to remove myself from something I never subscribed to. I expect you to remove me and never bother me again. I consider this both rude and intrusive. Trdsf (talk) 23:50, 6 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Confused

[edit]

Half the categories you are requesting notes image for I have already provided complete type sets based on volunteer work at the National Numismatic Collection. Isn't that a bit of a duplicate effort? Just curious...Godot13 (talk) 20:01, 21 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
