Lancia Aprilia in Danakil dessert 1939

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Lancia Aprilia through the Danakil dessert, on its way to (or from) Assab beach on the Red Sea, by colonello Giuseppe Guzzo, who was "royal chief" (?) of Asmara, the capital of Italian Eritrea at that time, which was in 1939, the source says: [1]: "A little-known episode is the journey made in the summer of 1939 by the Royal Chief of Asmara, Colonel Giuseppe Gozzi, who on board his Aprilia service reached the port of Assab crossing the Danakil region, the impervious area of Eritrea which alternates an average altitude of about 2500 meters. to low-pressure areas located 150 meters. below sea level. Traveling for three days he made 2 stages, in Macallè and Dessie, and in 22 actual hours of walking and about 1200 km, all on tracks, he reached his destination without even puncturing a tire. Today, for completely different reasons, it would not be possible to repeat the same route and it would take 29 hours of travel, without traffic, to cover 1979 km."
