Two world-renowned pop-stars, Beyonce and Britney touch down at Sydney International Airport just in time for the Mardi Gras parade, with their designer luggage in-tow.

The Queens of Pop will be dressed to impress. Beyonce will be wearing an outfit from the music video for her global hit ‘Single Ladies’ – while Britney will be wearing a stunning, sparkling silver dress, holding just one of many music awards she has won throughout her career.

With powerhouse vocals and killer dance moves, these two Queens of Pop have collectively sold over 175 million albums worldwide and have achieved countless number one hits throughout their international careers.

This reproduction is permitted under the Australian Copyright Act, sections 65–68, which state (emphasis added):
  • (65) (1) This section applies to sculptures and to works of artistic craftsmanship of the kind referred to in paragraph (c) of the definition of artistic work in section 10. (2) The copyright in a work to which this section applies that is situated, otherwise than temporarily, in a public place, or in premises open to the public, is not infringed by the making of a painting, drawing, engraving or photograph of the work or by the inclusion of the work in a cinematograph film or in a television broadcast.
  • (66) The copyright in a building or a model of a building is not infringed by the making of a [reproduction].
  • (68) The copyright in an artistic work is not infringed by the publication [of a reproduction] if, by virtue of section 65, section 66 or section 67, the making [...] did not constitute an infringement of the copyright.
This freedom applies to two-dimensional works only if they are considered "works of artistic craftsmanship." Typical examples (archived) are ceramics, embroidery, metal smithing, woodworking, crafted glass, and jewellery. See Commons:Freedom of Panorama#Australia for more information.

This work might not be available under a free license in the United States because it is based on an artwork or sculpture that may be protected by copyright under U.S. law. (Commons is hosted in the United States and as such U.S. law is applicable.)
  • In the source country of the artwork or sculpture, taking photographs of such works permanently located in a public place does not generally infringe on their copyright, under a principle known as "freedom of panorama".
  • In U.S. law there is no freedom of panorama for artwork or sculpture, and under the choice-of-law principle lex loci protectionis U.S. courts might apply U.S. freedom-of-panorama standards to this work, rather than the standards of the source country. However, in practice it is unsettled whether and how this approach would be applied in real world U.S. legal cases involving freedom-of-panorama elements.
The current policy on Commons is to accept photos of artwork and sculptures that are covered by freedom of panorama in their source country. This policy may change in the future, depending on the outcome of community discussions and new case law.
This is not a valid license tag on Commons; this file must be usable under freedom of panorama in its source country or it will be deleted.
