Inscription InfoField | Gottesgabe Rheine – Saline Salz, das "Weiße Gold" aus Bentlage, war jahrhundertelang ein überaus begehrtes Handelsgut und von überregionaler Bedeutung für das Wirtschaftsgefüge Westfalens. Die Salzgewinnung reicht weit bis ins Mittelalter in die Regierungszeit des Bischofs Siegfried von Münster (1022–1032) zurück. Die heute noch in Teilen erhaltene Anlage wurde 1745 fertiggestellt und befand sich mit der Tropfdorngradierung zur Konzentration der Sole auf dem modernsten Stand der damaligen Technik. Sie bestand aus dem Gradierwerk, den Solevorratsbehältern, diversen Förderanlagen und schließlich dem Siedehaus. 1890 wurde zusätzlich ein Bade- und Kurbetrieb eröffnet, der die wohltuende und heilende Wirkung des Salzes für Haut und Atmungsorgane nutzte. Die noch bis 1953 bzw. 1974 betriebenen Einrichtungen bilden ein europaweit einzigartiges Ensemble, um dessen Erhaltung und museale Nutzung sich die Stadt Rheine bemüht. |
