First and last
[edit]Hi! I noticed that on File:Agraharam house door.JPG there is this code:
{{Cite book|title=Castes and Tribes of Southern India Volume I - A and B|last1=Thurston|first1=Edgar|pages=280|authorlink=Edgar Thurston|first2=K.|last2=Rangachari|year=1909|publisher=Government Press|location=Madras}}
And the result is: (1909) Castes and Tribes of Southern India Volume I - A and B, Madras: Government Press, pp. 280
The problem is that first and last is not shown.
I wonder if there is anyone here on Commons working on the module or if we perhaps could just duplicate from enwiki.
Ping @Tol, Evolution and evolvability, Jarekt, and Trappist the monk: that worked on the module earlier on Commons (Trappist because of the extensive work on enwiki). --MGA73 (talk) 08:18, 29 May 2022 (UTC)
- I support import of the current version from enwiki. T.Shafee(Evo﹠Evo)talk 09:33, 29 May 2022 (UTC)
- The current version of {{cite book}} is ancient and does not support enumerated author names. This works:

- Thurston, Edgar (1909) Castes and Tribes of Southern India Volume I - A and B, Madras: Government Press, pp. 280
- Importing the cs1|2 mosule suite from en.wiki is an enormous task when done correctly. There are the base modules, the css, help text, documentation and a documentation support module, hundreds of categories.

Thank you everyone! I think we allready have the full module on Commons and it matches the English version as of July 2021. What I failed to see earlier is that the Citation templates does actually not use the module. So I guess the question is if we should convert the templates so they use the module. --MGA73 (talk) 16:04, 29 May 2022 (UTC)
- MGA73 I was experimenting with Module:Cite Wikidata a module 100% based on Wikidata where each language's version is based on their Wikipedia's preferred format which is stored at Data:I18n/Cite Wikidata.tab. See Module talk:Cite Wikidata/testcases . I can create template wrapper and documentation if useful. --Jarekt (talk) 01:49, 30 May 2022 (UTC)
- I think wikidata is great because it makes it easy to cite globally. But for many users it will be a challenge I guess. Perhaps we could have both. A copy of the templates from enwiki for easy copy paste and wikidata templates for the improved version (bot assisted convert if possible). --MGA73 (talk) 16:43, 31 May 2022 (UTC)
