Hey[edit]
Image was uploaded in 2007, so any sources from after that may not be fully reliable. However:
a 2003 book calls him 'Charles H. Fahy', as does a 1994 book, and possibly more. So....? DS (talk) 16:50, 20 August 2016 (UTC)
- Re: Mysterious Middle Initial
- Thanks for your comments. Charles Fahy was my great uncle. I have done a lot of research on this topic and have not found any original source for the "H" as a middle initial. I've seen some of the books you mentioned, but I fear a mistake was made at some point and it proliferates as others repeat it and cite each other. There are several references to Charles Fahy on U.S. government Web sites that do not include the "H", and through Ancestry.com, I've seen many documents that do not include it. For example, his 1942 WWII draft registration card shows a strikeout mark in the space for middle name. The "H" does not appear on his tombstone and was not used by the Washington Post in an article about his death. I've also never seen a name to go with "H". If any reliable sources for the use of a middle initial were to come to light, I'd be in favor of using the initial and even more tickled to learn what "H" stands for. What do you think?
