Jpeg?

[edit]

I was curious why you are using jpeg for small icons. Jpeg is a lossy compression, and a more suitable file format is normally png or better svg (I do not have any easy way of creating svg, so I use png). Even gif is better because it uses a lossless compression, but png is preferred other than for animations. Delphi234 (talk) 16:24, 28 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hmmm, this is the first "talk" I've received or tried to reply to. I'm not sure if this is the correct way to do it!
  • Well, I uploaded several small icons, and yes I believe they are all as jpegs. There is no "why" really, it's just that this is the way my software produces them. I did look on Wikipedia for advice about the best format and what I found seemed to say that Jpegs were fine. So you say that png is better? Well, I'll look into that for the future. Thanks for the tip! Jeffrey

OH.... now I see why using png is a bad idea!, .... I tried images in that format, and they do not even display - just a blank square (however I can see them on my computer so I know they work fine) --- well, I will NOT use png again.... I'm sticking to jpegs, because they work!
