User talk:NPG~commonswiki
Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump. |

Sorry
[edit]Unfortunately, we have objected to such claims as being contradictory to the very concept of the public domain. Under US law, slavish reproductions of PD artwork are still PD. Regardless of country of origin, this doctrine applies to any public domain artwork per project consensus. ViperSnake151 (talk) 17:57, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
Copyfraud
[edit]I'm sure you're well aware that faithful reproductions of two-dimensional works which are in the public domain do not generate new copyright under US law. As Commons' servers are hosted in the US, US law applies. However, even considering UK law, there is not sufficient sweat of the brow to generate new copyright. The National Portrait Gallery has no copyright on the images you're asking to have deleted. Such claims are copyfraud - stop making these requests, as they will not be honoured and are likely to result in your account being blocked. Thanks — Mike.lifeguard 18:38, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
Hi
[edit]Hi, this is Derrick Coetzee, I uploaded most of the images from the National Portrait Gallery. While Commons is not willing to remove any image based solely on the new copyright supposedly acquired by the reproduction, we are very much willing to remove any work for which the original work is not known to be public domain, in either the US or the UK. I've done my best to eliminate these works, but I may have missed some. Please let me know if you find any and I will personally ensure their prompt removal. Dcoetzee (talk) 20:11, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called NPG. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name NPG~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
