Southern Alberta flood
[edit]Hi,
I have added "Category:2013 Calgary flood" to your pictures. If you have more to input, that would be great but please add this category when you do it.

- Hello Pierre,
As a new (possibly incompetent) wikipedia contributor, I don't quite understand how to assign a category to a photo, could you briefly explain it? Also, when I reply to you, should I be doing it here on my user talk, or should I post on your user talk section? Lastly, how do you leave that fancy signature code thing? (as you can tell, I am extremely articulate, and fluent in HTML, or what ever code wikipedia uses)

- Hi. It is not difficult :
- Before you upload an image, I would suggest that you browse Commons categories that could be related to your image. For instance, in the case of Calgary flood, you might go to Category: Floods where there is sub-category for floods by year, region, and so on. You might find the right category for you there. On the other hand, you can look at the category of other images on the same subject. In the case of Alberta flood, you could click on one of the image there and find that it is in the 2013 Alberta flood or 2013 Calgary flood category.
- When you upload your image, the last item at the bottom is to choose a category. If you know the category your picture belong, you click on the plus sign and begin to type it on the line that appears. If you are not sure, you can begin to type (e.g. 2013 ) and Commons can suggest you possibilities to complete (e.g. 2013 Academy Awards.... 2013 Floods... and so on). Once finished, you just click on the Validate button.
- Finally, after uploading your image, you can always change or input a category simply by editing the image file. In that case, you add at the bottom [[Category:''Name of the category'']].
- Read Commons:Categories for further details and have a good time on Wikipedia!
