Never Mind my Last Post!![edit]

Folks, it's wikipedia user Chocolatier again ... I'm such a new user of all these things that my enthusiasm can lead to minor embarassments ... such be the case now... so i'm "editing out" my last edit... thanks--142.163.78.193 17:25, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Congrats![edit]

This atlas is really, really awesome! Well done!! --Astrokey44 09:08, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Make maps[edit]

Hello, you can be interesting in the en:wikipedia:Graphic Lab/Maps. This project need to set up efficient cartographic protocols/norms, for wikipedia purpose. If you know some cartographers able to lead a such project, that's welcome. - lyhana8 (Talk) 15:21, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Alternative[edit]

Is there any gallery of maps with less English text that I can link to from a picture of the day description? I tried linking to maps but that is a redirect to here. /81.229.40.149 16:22, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There are sometimes separate maps of entries. Electionworld 23:25, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikibooks[edit]

Maybe Wikibooks is a better place for this Atlas project. Since Commons is a multilingual project the atlas will get more complex as more languages are added. If the atlaswas at Wikibooks, the atlas can be single language with translations at the different Wikibooks language edistions. Atlases are books used for education so the atlas project should fit the purpose of Wikibooks (educational text books and manuals). /81.229.40.149 16:56, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It might be true, but the maintenance of the atlas, especially checking for new maps is easier in commons. A future alternative could be a separate domain Wikiatlas. Though commons is multi-lingual, the atlas entries are limited to English and the native languages of the countries involved. Electionworld 23:24, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Beyond your mission statement[edit]

With your experience in the Atlas project, a matter with some relation --place name list/identifier with maps 'Proto-project' is being discussed here: w:Talk:List_of_countries_in_Europe#Proto-proposal -- and I wondered whether anyone here would care to advise us on what's already in the works of a similar (or identical!) nature to your knowledge. I'd some hopes you all already had something along these lines in progress, but perhaps there is another Commons project of related scope (One generating locator maps comes to mind). Help with map project[edit]

Does anyone have a .svg map program that can be of my assistance? I need some help in creating a street map of New York City in .svg format. I am trying to format it similar to Google Maps or Windows Live Maps. Help will be appreciated. You can respond on my talk if you'd like. Thanks. --Imdanumber1 11:57, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Clickable maps for the atlas[edit]

I'm working on making clickable image maps for this atlas. For example:

North AmericaSouth AmericaAfricaAsiaEuropeOceaniaOceaniaOceans

I made this map with the image map editor tool. I took a long time to make it, and then I realized the map didn't include Antarctica, so I'll have to do it over again with a different map. I'm thinking we could have a map like this on every regional page in the atlas.

What do you think? -Teaandcrumpets 16:32, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Update: I'm making clickable map templates for all the regions of the world. If you want to help, pick a continent/region, and do it. It's pretty easy with the image map editor. -Teaandcrumpets 13:08, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Theatrum Orbis Terrarum[edit]

It seems there are already many maps from Theatrum Orbis Terrarum on commons, yet few are assigned to Category:Theatrum Orbis Terrarum and/or to Ortelius. Please check and expand what I have started. --Matthead 04:28, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rivers?[edit]

Is there a SVG with just the major rivers of Europe?

Atlas of the World, {{Atlas-end}} - break into pages; add time zones?[edit]

I propose splitting Atlas of the World into multiple pages, e.g., Topo, Natural resources, Projections, and adding Time zone maps. I also propose putting direct links to these pages into section "The world and its continents and oceans" of {{Atlas-end}}. (I am posting here because Talk:Atlas of the World and Talk:Atlas/Templates don't exist.) For example:

The world and its continents and oceans
General maps of the world · Physical and topographical · Political · Geological · Natural resources · People and land use · Time zones
Historical maps of the world · Old maps
Africa · North and South America · Antarctica · Asia · Europe (History, European Union) · Oceania · Oceans

Presently Atlas of the World has lots of great information, but it's not obvious from the section title "General maps of the world" what is under there. I came here looking for a time zone map and couldn't find one, which is what started me on this idea. What say you? Cxw (talk) 14:09, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to go ahead. I apologize in advance if I step on any toes; please let me know. Thanks! Cxw (talk) 22:27, 19 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Map projections[edit]

Is there a standard on which map projection should be used on what scale?

Subnational autonomous entities[edit]

I see "Catalonia" and many more are included in the "Subnational autonomous entities" section. So... we are not a nation? Most of people here in Catalonia consider it a nation different from Spain. I hate when STATES WRITE HISTORY, not the people. And it's sad for me. --Catalaalatac (talk) 16:08, 9 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Reporting editing of Atlases by User:23prootie[edit]

Most of these edits in question are from January 2011 and has been move atlases to native names for months User:23prootie has changed the Atlas of British Indian Ocean Territory Introduction and Name to reflect a Chagossian slant and moved said atlas to Atlas of the Chagos Archipelago, He also altered/moved other atlases, I don't have time right to fix this, so thats why I post here

Here are the Atlas that have been changed:

Atlas of the Paracel Islands

Atlas of Muslim Mindanao

Atlas of the Spratly Islands

Atlas of British Indian Ocean Territory

Interestingly, your historical maps do not show any maps of the Assyrian Empire which directly ruled over the lands that are today's Iraqi Kurdistan.
