Edit request

{{Edit request}} Please add "volapükist" (w:en:Volapükist) and "bohemist". Thanks, --Petrus Adamus (talk) 20:51, 23 December 2010 (UTC)

If you want the page to be translated, this is not the right place to ask. The translation can be added to the other template. It is not protected. --Cwbm (commons) (talk) 20:08, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
I pleased only adding to the list in {{Occupation/en}}. --Petrus Adamus (talk) 07:49, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
Comment What is a "bohemist" ?--Zolo (talk) 07:57, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
Un bohemiste est un spécialiste des langues et de la civilisation tchèque. --Petrus Adamus (talk) 21:01, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
Ok thanks. I can see the French word on the internet but not the English one.--Zolo (talk) 06:11, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
Well, of course you can translate it to English in another way, I do not how. --Petrus Adamus (talk) 07:15, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
Since there does not seem to be any English word, I think the most cautious solution would be something like "Czech studies specialist" .
I am not sure, that a Frenchman (although maybe mastering English) will understood, that it should be his bohemiste. Anyway, it is possible to find the word Bohemist(ics) on webpages in English as well, see for instance the following ones: [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6]. --Petrus Adamus (talk) 15:22, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
I don't think we shold create new words here I can add Czech studies specialist=Bohémiste in occupation/fr.--Zolo (talk) 17:31, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
Yes, you are right, but the examples above should have demonstrated the present existence of the word in English. Anyway, there are many words of the same group needed, such as Polonist, Germanist, Hispanist, Hellenist etc. Besides, the second requested, Volapükist, is similar to Esperantist, both normally used. --Petrus Adamus (talk) 17:45, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
Bohemstics seems to be more commons than Bohemist. Though it may sound natural to go from to one to the other I think we should wait that it has become more widely used. I have no objection to Polonist or Volapükist if they are commonly used.
The problem is that change a non-English version is easy, but as English is used as the source language, changing an item in that requires an edit in all localisation subpages. But what can I do, being not an administrator, please add there at least something. --Petrus Adamus (talk) 18:22, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

✓ Done I added "Volapükist", lets create "Bohemist" or "Bohemstics" article in english wikipedia and it it survives then lets revisit the issue. --Jarekt (talk) 19:16, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

Well, pray create an item of that meaning in a translation at your pleasure, so that we could translate it as bohemista to Czech. --Petrus Adamus (talk) 19:49, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

Question That's not really an occupation. Do we add political interest to this list? --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 22:36, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
I'm primarily editing categories of people from Slovenia. There are so many cases of a person described as a 'communist' in the Slovene Wikipedia [8] that I presumed it would be worthy to add the term to the list. There are other categories too that are not an occupation, e.g. "national hero".[9] Even if these are not an occupation sensu stricto, they're concise descriptions of what the person is notable for, so they can stand on their own in the introduction line. --Eleassar (t/p) 05:57, 17 August 2014 (UTC)

Please repair

{{Edit request}} Please be so kind and take a look through the following:

  • Fix this line: ✓ Done
|anti communist=anti-communist=anti communsit
               ^ ^^
  • |comic book writer comes twice. ✓ Done
  • “empress” is missing (“emperor” exists). ✓ Done
  • Why are “duke/duchess” combined with the noble… terms, when “king/queen“ and “prince/princess” (and “emperor”) have their own names? ✓ Done
  • There’s no “american football player” and (oops) no “softball player”. For the second, there’s only a “north-american soft ball player”. I do not understand the sense of this specialization. (Correction by Speravir on 17:19, 19 December 2015, UTC.)  Not done
  • Shouldn’t be sorted:
    • “communist” before “composer”? ✓ Done
    • “friar” after “fresco painter”? ✓ Done
    • “photojournalist” after “photographer” and both before “physician”? ✓ Done
    • “physiologist” after “physicist”? ✓ Done
  • |plasterer could be combined with |stuccoist. ✓ Done
  • Isn’t “porcelain manufacture” a typo? Earlier there are both “manufacture” and “manufacturer”, but only a “paper manufacturer”. ✓ Done
  • Compare the hyphen signs in the groups of “black-” and “red-figure vase painter/s”. This looks a bit odd to me. There is also “vase painter/s“ – only without the hyphen sign. ✓ Done
  • It seems, that “romanist” was accidently removed (it’s in the list). ✓ Done
  • Maybe, I’m wrong and the Britsh call them otherwise, but why is there only a “theater critic”? ✓ Done
  • “voice actress” is missing. ✓ Done
  • Not important, but (for me with syntax highlighting) annoying: There are trailing spaces in a lot of lines, as far as I see, mostly tab characters. In a downloaded test file removing of these saved 531 bytes, so probably there are as many tabs at line endings. ✓ Done

And, please, add a distinct notice for all admins, that after each update of the English template also the term list must be updated. It took me just hours to add all the missing terms. ✓ Done — Preceding unsigned comment added by Speravir (talk • contribs) 04:47, 19 December 2015 (UTC) (UTC)

Later additions from 02:46, 20 December 2015 (UTC):

  • “accoucheuse“ is missing (“accoucheur“ exists). ✓ Done
  • “anti communist/anti communist” should be sorted before “antiquarian”. ✓ Done
  • For “anti-revolutionary/antirevolutionary” the more common term seems to be counter(-/ )revolutionary, cf. this redirect: en:Anti-revolutionary.  Not done
  • Why “cobbler”, but no “shoemaker”? ✓ Done
  • In which sense is “founder” used? Is it here the same like “caster”?  Not done
  • Is there a female form for “friar”? (Update: It’s “sister”.) ✓ Done
  • “guitarist” should be sorted before “gunsmith”. ✓ Done
  • There’s “king of Persia”, but no “queen…”. ✓ Done
  • I don’t know, why, but in the German translation list exists an “ophthalmologist”. It is missing in the English list (also no synonym “oculist”), was it accidentally removed or should it deleted from German translation list? ✓ Done
  • The same for “wholesaler”: it’s on the German list, but not on the English one. ✓ Done

--Speravir (Talk) 02:46, 20 December 2015 (UTC)

Speravir, I copied current Template:Occupation/en to Template:Occupation/en/sandbox. Can you add your proposed changes there? --Jarekt (talk) 12:57, 24 December 2015 (UTC)
Yes, we I can. Thank you. I will go through the entries and add a mark at every item, which is done, and which is intentionally not done. For the second group I will add notes below. --Speravir (Talk) 21:25, 24 December 2015 (UTC)

So, I made the edits to the sandbox. Now some necessary remarks for things to notify:

  • I solved the case with the hyphen sign in “black-/red-figure vase painter/s” and companions by adding all variations. I found them all in Commons, but did not search for the use in an “occupation” field.
  • “porcelain manufacture” is actually used in Creator:Manufacture nationale de Sèvres, so I could not change it. But I added “porcelain manufacturer”. Hence, it is solved in a special way.
  • The question for the meaning of “founder” was not for a change in the English phrasing, but at least in German there are two (nowadays) fully different translations, cf. dict.cc: Gießer and dict.cc: Gründer. According to a search in Commons it is in the moment only used in the meaning “caster”. I added an HTML comment (like I added one after |porcelain manufacture). There is by the way no “molder” (British version) until now.
  • “anti-revolutionary/antirevolutionary” versus “counter-revolutionary”: This seems to be American versus British English. A native speaker should decide whether the later should be added (mind the redirection in enwiki), and if yes, in which location (as separate term?).
  • “north-american softball player” is not done only in one sense: I added “softball player”, but did not delete the other. A search, though, did not show any use of the phrase without one deleted category: Search results for „insource:/north.?american softball player/i “ without templates. This looks to me, that it could be deleted, but it is already in several sub-templates: Search results for „insource:/north.?american softball player/i “ only in templates – something for a bot, I think.
  • See the notice I added at the very end of the template in the noinclude area. Please check for spelling and diction.

After any potential changes here I would this time update the term overview, again. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Speravir (talk • contribs) 22:54, 25 December 2015 (UTC)
