Copyright rules for photos of museum pieces[edit]

If the guy is dead since more than 70 years, all his works are in the public domain now. The da sie keine eigene Schöpfungshöhe aufweist means that the photo is only a reproduction of the painting with no artistic contribution of the photographer. This would be different if for example the photo of the painting is at an fancy angle, has some additional background, a model in front of the photo, etc. I ran recently in a similiar problem. A pretty good discussion with links can be found at en:Image talk:Barlach Magdeburger Ehrenmal.jpg.

--Avatar 10:55, 10 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Gregor4!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.
