Future Museum Images

Dear C Fred, the images uploaded today (mainly related to archaeology/social histroy) were taken by me and uploaded to the Future Museum webpage. All low res jpegs objects on the Future Museum website are public domain and can be used as such. Thanks again - FutureMuseumSW

Copyright photo

I saw you took down my chris resop picture. Can I ask you how to tell if a picture is copyrighted or not? I'm determined to find an image of him playing for the Pirates that will work. Thanks for your help.

I don't know if this is your usual way but it is better to just speedy tag such images instead of nominating for deletion, as such a nomination takes at least 7 days while a speedy is sometimes dealt with in just a few hours. Maybe you should use User:Rillke/LicenseReview.js (details on talk page User talk:ZooFari/licensereviewer.js) if you don't know about it already. Good luck. @Ww2censor: Normally I would speedy an image if it were a clear infringement. The ND tag left me enough uncertainty that I wanted to report it for deletion but I wasn't convinced it was a speedy, and I thought this was better than getting the speedy declined. Yeah, sometime it's not quite clearcut but Disney images are very unlikely to ever be freely licensed. Of course it's not wrong I just prefer going for the quickest route when I'm sure it is a copyvio but obviously YMMV. I must remember you are an admin on the enwiki if I need some assistance. Video game cover arts

Hello again. So I received your response and understood how Wikimedia Commons works. Still, I'm wondering how can I upload a game cover art in order to add to those pages missing proper cover arts? I see a lot of people upload and fill in infobox sections without being deleted. @Tuanpingas: You can't upload a video game cover art image to Commons. The covers will all be under all-rights-reserved licenses of the game publishers.

You can upload a cover image to the English Wikipedia. You'll have to note that it's somebody else's image, provide the source, and provide a fair-use rationale. Those images are allowed to be hosted at en.wikipedia; they are not allowed here. C.Fred (talk) 19:22, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

@C.Fred: ok thanks for the info. But there's a little flaw on Wiki's editing tools. When I click photo icon for the first time, it didn't tell me it would upload my scans to Wikimedia until it did. When I was notified for deletion I was kinda confused. A friend of mine told me there is a tool called "Image Uploader Wizard" that could help me upload my scans to exactly Wikipedia instead of Wikimedia. Deleted Image?

Hi Fred,

You had flagged my edit to Ashley Massaro's Wikipedia page for updating her photo. I have her approval as well as the owner of the updated photo to make such changes. Why did you delete the image?

Source of a photo

Hi, About this edit, is there any evidence supporting your statement that this file was "obtained directly from creator"? Do you really have personal knowledge of the identity of the creator and of how the uploader obtained the file? Or is there even any statement anywhere by the uploader where he/she said or implied that the file was "obtained directly from creator"? The Commons file is smaller than the already small image on the Goodreads website. For now, a possible source is that the Commons file was copied from the internet and that's one of the reasons for the deletion discussion. -- Asclepias (talk) 12:48, 8 September 2017 (UTC)

Asclepias See the files for deletion discussion. There are two possibilities. One is that these are disconnected editors just scraping the internet and making up their claims of being related to Taillard. The other possibility is that Mtaillard is the subject or a closely-connected party, and that AshleyTaillard is the subject, subject's wife, or a closely-connected party; a subset of this possibility is that both run by are the same editor. Mtaillard has already declared a COI, although he's denied being en:Michael Taillard. My gut says the subject's wife got the photo to the uploader, but I can't prove it. And I've interacted enough with this editor(s) that I'd gladly let a more removed party come in and say "No, Commons policy is that they must confirm ID and donation through OTRS" than for me to try to say it. I don't know if the two users are who they say they are. I'm not saying that they are not. What they say sounds plausible and I'm willing to believe them, but that's not the point. All I want to do is advise caution before you take upon yourself the responsibility of making what might be a false statement on the file description page about the source, invented on the basis of a "gut feeling", even though the two involved users never said or implied that. -- Asclepias (talk) 15:01, 8 September 2017 (UTC)
