I noticed that you uploaded a file using the name File:Ancient seven wonders timeline.svg. A file by this name already existed on Commons. Overwriting an existing file should not be done except when making minor, uncontroversial corrections, so the file has been restored to its previous version. If the file that you attempted to upload is within our project scope and is in the public domain or published under a free license, please upload it again under a different name. Thank you. For more information, please see Commons:Overwriting files.

Please follow the guideline at Commons:Derivative works and re-upload your work to a new name, for example File:Ancient seven wonders timeline (es).svg. Thank you for your translation, which is very welcome! SI 08:05, 7 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for letting me know.

What really happened is that I wanted to provide a translation of the file. I looked for how to make it known to the original author, but I didn't know how to translate it. I thought it was right there because there were two translations of the article in that same link. When trying to find a way to contribute, I ended up publishing that copy of the file, which was never my intention, and then spent a lot of time deleting it. I assumed that the author was the only one who could erase my translation and publish it with the other two. He, the author, thanked me for translating into Spanish, but I think the file was still there.

Sorry for all my mistake. I don't have the habit of publishing anything new or translating files, I only translate articles, and I thought it was something similar. Hahaha. And after I tried to erase what I published. After all, I tried to talk with the author, and I didn't know how!

I would like to contribute whenever I can anything that my knowledge allows. I also tried to learn the language of Wikipedia, but I saw it very rare. It could help a lot if you can tell me where I can read about how Wikipedia works for content creators.

Thank you very much for writing to explain the mistake I had made :) Juandamec (talk) 13:29, 7 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

In Spanish

Thank you very much for adding Spanish, Juandamec. @Schmarrnintelligenz: was right to state that it shouldn't overwrite the existing language. My solution was to make a multilingual SVG with your translation added. Can you please check if it's OK?

Thanks,

Yes, @Cmglee: . It is OK. Thanks for that. Sorry for my previous hazing. Hahaha. If you want, you have a translator who would be willing to help.
Thanks for that correction, again. I am just trying and learning the commands yet.

No problem at all, Juandamec. We all learn from the beginning! Thanks for offering to help. If it's not too much trouble, may I request you to translate two things?
  1. I'd like to create a template similar to en:Template:Ancient_seven_wonders_timeline.svg to put in the Spanish Wikipedia. When it's placed (transcluded) in each Wonder's article, it automatically fills in the name of the article, e.g. "Timeline and map of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, including the Colossus of Rhodes". Is it possible to do it in Spanish? I understand that Spanish has genders, so will the word "the" need to change according to the Wonder's name?
  2. Could you also please translate the image's description, "Timeline and map of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World by CMG Lee, compared with the approximate lifespan of Philo of Byzantium who described them. Dates in bold green and dark red are those of their construction and destruction, respectively, based on data at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:A_timeline_of_the_Seven_Wonders_of_the_ancient_world.png . The map is from http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Mediterranean_Basin_and_Near_East_before_1000_AD_topographic_map.jpg ." so that non-English speakers can search for it more easily? @Kirill Borisenko: has done the Russian version.
Thanks in advance,

Of course!

1. That's right, the gender for each title is different.
"Cronología y mapa de las Siete Maravillas del Mundo Antiguo, incluido/a". "incluido" for males, and "incluida" for females.
In order of the image:
  1. La Pirámide de Giza [Female]
  2. Los Jardines Colgantes de Babilonia [Male]
  3. El Templo de Artemiza en Éfeso [Male]
  4. La Estatua de Zeus en Olimpia [Female]
  5. El Mausoleo en Halicarnaso [Male]
  6. El Coloso de Rodas [Male]
  7. El Faro de Alejandría [Male]
2. Translation of the image description:
I'm not sure of "Dates in bold green and dark red". Is it ok?
Juandamec (talk) 5:23, 10 March 2020 (UTC)
Thank you so much, Juandamec. Due to the verb and article complication, I've truncated the caption to "Cronología y mapa de las Siete Maravillas del Mundo Antiguo", created es:plantilla:ancient_seven_wonders_timeline.svg, and added it to the Wonders' articles starting from es:Siete maravillas del mundo antiguo. Hope that's OK.
I've also updated the description on File:Ancient_seven_wonders_timeline.svg#Summary. I think it's OK, though I can't vet it myself! The nice thing about Wikimedia is that someone may improve it in the future.
Thanks again,

P.S. I found a way to add the "incluida La" etc. If the second parameter is not blank, it appends ", <second parameter> <article name>", so I can do something like {{ancient_seven_wonders_timeline.svg|upright|incluida La}}.

Hi, CMG Lee.
Thank you for all this, CMG Lee. I only helped a little.
Thank you very much also for adjusting the file in each article of the seven Wonders of the World. I see no problem in your posts, and very interesting how you made the description in each article. Hahaha.
The Spanish summary of the file also has my approval. Hahaha.
If you want something more, you can ask me.

You're welcome, Juandamec. Glad it looks OK. I'll let you know if I need more help with Spanish in the future. Have a good weekend! cmɢʟee ⋅τaʟκ 01:30, 13 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
