Tip: Categorizing images[edit]

Afrikaans | العربية | беларуская (тарашкевіца)‎ | català | čeština | dansk | Deutsch | Deutsch (Sie-Form)‎ | Ελληνικά | English | Esperanto | español | فارسی | suomi | français | galego | עברית | magyar | íslenska | italiano | 日本語 | ქართული | 한국어 | македонски | മലയാളം | Plattdüütsch | Nederlands | norsk bokmål | polski | português | português do Brasil | română | русский | slovenčina | slovenščina | српски / srpski | svenska | українська | Tiếng Việt | 中文 | 中文(简体)‎ | 中文(繁體)‎ | +/−

Hello, Rowanwindwhistler!

Tip: Add categories to your images

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

Uploadwizard-categories.png

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations"). Pro-tip: The CommonSense tool can help you find the best category for your image.

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

re: Picture source and rights[edit]

Sorry for my late answer, I don't have time anymore to contibute to Wikipedia, and I don't check my accounts often. Your question regarding the copyright status of those images about Horthy is difficult to answer, basically i haven't got the faintest idea. Best wishes Cserlajos (talk) 20:34, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

Update of File:Hindenburg, Kaiser, Ludendorff HD-SN-99-02150.JPG[edit]

Hello,

Do you mind uploading your version of this as a separate image? The version I uploaded is actually a crop of this particular image (e.g. look at the antlers mounted on the wall) and my source information will not apply to the version you found. I think we should thus treat both versions as 2 separate images and for now I'm reverting back to the original. Thanks. BrokenSphere 01:56, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Map translation[edit]

Hi. I saw that you translated my map of Hungary during WWII into Spanish language, so I wonder can you translate one other map into Spanish as well? I draw this map of the Roman Prefecture of Illyricum in 2005, but I recently uploaded an improved version of that map: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Prefecture.png The thing is, somebody translated older version of this map into Spanish, as you can see here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:PrefectureIllyricum.png So, the Spanish version should be also improved as English one, but since user:Waldoz who uploaded Spanish version is no longer active here, can you translate this improved map version into Spanish and upload it instead of the old Spanish version? PANONIAN (talk) 19:19, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

Good work with map translation - I just made few minor aesthetic changes in it and also translated map legend into Spanish (I copy-pasted that legend from the article in Spanish Wikipedia, so would you check is that translation good since I do not speak Spanish and I do not know is that a correct translation from English). File:Bundesarchiv Bild 183-L07689 Ion Gigurtu.jpg[edit]

Is that images covered by Commons:Bundesarchiv? It not comes from the upload of that cooperation. --Martin H. (talk) 17:22, 27 April 2010 (UTC)

Ehm, also your other "Bundesarchiv" uploads... Only images uploded in the batch upload are cc-by-sa, the rest from the Bundesarchiv and in the Bundesarchiv database is protected by copyright and not free. Or do you have individual permission? --Martin H. (talk) 17:24, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
Damn, thats a worse thing you did here! E.g . File:Bundesarchiv Bild 146-1971-039-44, Kurt Eisner.jpg is a blatant copyright infringement, the image is clearly not included in the cooperation Commons&BArch, the image is protected by copyright and not included because the BArch not owns the requried copyrights to release it under a free license. You can not simply steal those images from the Bundesarchiv database and claim them licensed under cc-by and included in "|Permission=Commons:Bundesarchiv". I dont expect a long standing user dooing such bad things here. --Martin H. (talk) 17:29, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
It is. I ordered this image along with 11 others from the Bundesarchiv to be digitalized for Commons use. I will pay for the scanning of the photo originals myself and I am uploading them with the usual Bundesarchiv license. In particular, the Bundesarchiv personnel requested these conditions to be fulfilled in the uploaded photos (please correct any possible mistake I may make):

--Rowanwindwhistler (talk) 17:31, 27 April 2010 (UTC)

Hi Rowanwindwhistler, if you have indeed a permission, you need to forward that to OTRS. As many copyright violations are uploaded to Commons every day, we require proof in such cases. Please give your user name and the names of the deleted files in that email. Please let me know if any further assistance is needed. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 17:44, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
Its redicoulous. I spent much time to order and scan the information from a rare book and to explain WHO the author of File:Bundesarchiv Bild 146-1971-039-44, Kurt Eisner.jpg is and that it is protected by copyright untill 2056. The author is clearly identified. Now you upload the image with the claim, that the author is anonymous and that the Bundesarchiv gave you permission to reuse an image that they OBVIOUSLY not hold the rights on(the heritage of that photographer is hold by another museum) and that the image is included in Commons:Bundesarchiv... Obviously not, you knew the author, you knew the copyright status, so your license claim etc must be a fake. --Martin H. (talk) 18:02, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
Martin, I am not claiming anything, as far as I know the Bundesarchiv is (please go and see for yourself in their site). Please tell them to correct it if you are sure it is wrong. They think they can allow the usage of the image with a Commons license. If you disagree, tell them. However, I was to upload 12 images, not just one, all of them allowed by Bundesarchiv. Nothing is "fake" (though it may be wrong, everybody makes mistakes...). Again, calm down. Whatever I may have done wrong, I have done in best faith and this is not the end of the world. If an image is indeed unusable, I will have thrown my money down the drain and the image will be deleted, that's all. But try to try to keep polite as you have not right to accuse anyone of anything...--Rowanwindwhistler (talk) 18:10, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
Forward your communication to OTRS please. Also the initially mentioned image is relatively obvious a Heinrich Hoffmann photo. I can imagine, that permission for private reuse is granted, I cant imagine that they are so carelessly with legal restrictions. --Martin H. (talk) 18:28, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
Hello, I already did, following AFBorchert's suggestion. I hope all necessary information is in the mail I sent but, if anything is missing, do not hesitate to ask me and I will do my best to find whatever may be missing. About the most contested image, they raised no objections (as with the others) but they may not have been aware of its true status. I assumed they were allowed to borrow the image to wikimedia in the usual restricted quality (actually, I did not ask for this one in particular, but for a portrait of Kurt Eisner, it has just been a coincidence they sent the same one already in Commons and to be deleted). Anyhow, I will wait for confirmation that the images are indeed usable in Commons before I upload any more. If they are not, I think it would be a good idea someone told Bundesarchiv, to avoid any future misunderstandings, I mean. Thank you for your advice.--Rowanwindwhistler (talk) 18:36, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
Hi Martin, I've just checked the material Rowanwindwhistler has sent to OTRS. On the first view it looks as if Rowanwindwhistler acted in good faith but I am now in the process of checking this out with the Bundesarchiv. Ticket number is OTRS ticket 2010042710030088. Martin, is there somewhere a summary of the issues you saw with the uploads, i.e. the identification of the photographer etc? I noted also that the email referenced more photographs (12 in total). Do you have that extended list or did you just note the files which had been uploaded? Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 18:58, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
Hi Rowanwindwhistler and Martin, at OTRS we received meanwhile a confirmation of the Bundesarchiv that confirms Rowanwindwhistler's statements. These pictures will, however, probably be uploaded through a process that follows the previous uploads of the Bundesarchiv. (There is still an ongoing discussion regarding this point.) Martin, if there are any objections in regard to this set, please voice them now and I'll forward that. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 12:02, 29 April 2010 (UTC)
Hi, glad to hear things are being sorted out. Just a few questions if you don't mind my asking: 1) How could I know when the pictures will be transferred (I wanted the images for some wikipedia articles I am helping with)? 2) In case the price of the service ends up being reasonable and I decide to order some more pictures from Bundesarchiv for Commons, what would be the right procedure for me to follow to avoid further misunderstandings? 3) Is there any place in Commons where requests for Bundesarchiv can be made, i.e. if I would like an image of character X or event Y scanned, is there any place in Commons where I can register my request so that it can be relayed to Bundesarchiv? Thanks in advance for your kind support.--Rowanwindwhistler (talk) 12:17, 29 April 2010 (UTC)
Hi Rowanwindwhistler, there is a process in preparation (but not yet operational) that allows the Bundesarchiv to upload further photographs. If this process is ready, the Bundesarchiv itself will upload the photographs. In the meantime, this will be done by Raymond who has already worked with the Bundesarchiv in the past. As long as the new process has not been enabled, I would suggest to contact Raymond to get this done properly, i.e. do not upload the Bundesarchiv images yourself but let this be done. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 14:08, 29 April 2010 (UTC)
Hi, I see, no problem at all. I just sent him a mail to see if I can be of any assistance in the process. I would be interested in knowing the procedure to order and upload pictures from Bundesarchiv, just in case I decide to order some more pictures for Commons. I suppose it will be posted somewhere when ready... Kind regards.--Rowanwindwhistler (talk) 20:05, 29 April 2010 (UTC)

You can see the picture in page 253 of volume 2, here http://www.archive.org/details/outlawsdiary02tormuoft . I already corrected the source item in the file.--Rowanwindwhistler (talk) 08:20, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Austria-Hungría[edit]

En el mapa étnico del Imperio Austrohúngaro has puesto "linguístico" en lugar de "lingüístico". Es una falta de ortografía muy grave, porque además hace que no se lea igual. Un saludo.

Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on Commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the Wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:

 • Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
 • State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikimedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best to use CommonsHelper.
 • If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
 • Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
 • Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.

If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.

It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.

You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file.

Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more information, follow the Commons:First steps guide. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the Help desk.

Thank you.

Dises egipcios[edit]

Hola Rowanwindwhistler. Son muy buenas tus imágenes del MAN. Verás que he renombrado algunos dioses.

Your map[edit]

There is one mistake in this map that you uploaded. Vojvodina had no any relation to Hungarian Soviet Republic and you can see that in this source: http://libcom.org/files/images/library/hungarianmap%5B1%5D.jpg so, there is no reason that Vojvodina is colored here. I corrected this mistake in original map that you used as source, but this mistake should be corrected in your map too. 123iti (talk) 11:55, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Ok, but if you only want to show an extra info then we still would have problem with way how that info is presented. Both, Vojvodina and Croatia were parts of serb-Croat-Slovene Kingdom in that time and both were part of the Kingdom of Hungary before that, so I do not see why Vojvodina is presented with one color and Croatia with other? Both territories had same status in that time. So, if you want to present parts of former Hungarian Kingdom under Serb (Yugoslav) and French control then please paint Croatia into blue too (and yes, Serb-Croat-Slovene Kingdom was created on December 1st 1918, so it was not territory under Serb control, but under Serb-Croat-Slovene control - it was an common state of 3 nations in that time). There is also problem with word occupation which have negative conotation - I suggest neutral description: territory under Serb-Croat-Slovene and French control. 123iti (talk) 22:57, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
The army was Yugoslav because when joint state was created in December 1st, 1918, the joint army was proclaimed as well no matter that former army of the Kingdom of Serbia was a main part of new koint army. The occupation issue: officially, parts of former Austria-Hungary were under occupation only until December 1st, 1918 when they became parts of newly created Kingdom which was internationally recognized in 1919, an year before Treaty of Trianon. The text of Trianon Treaty itself does not mention with a single word that any territory was „taken“ from Hungary. On the contrary, it treat Hungary as a newly created state and define its borders towards neighbours while all new countries that included parts of former Kingdom of Hungary are recognized as successor states of that kingdom (you can see that by yourself if you read text of the treaty: http://wwi.lib.byu.edu/index.php/Treaty_of_Trianon ). You also can see that even original uploader of a map did not used word occupation, but used neutral word control: http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Nepkoztarsasag.png&oldid=21543584 And no matter that Hungary proclaimed its independece in late 1918, it was not internationally recognized as an independent country before late 1919, so it is not possible that territory controled by Yugoslavia is de jure occupied territory of an unrecognized country. Word „occupation“ is clearly your personal addition to this map and you done that without deeper knowledge of certain historical events. Please change that due to description in original map. Thank you. 123iti (talk) 12:20, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
I do not know how to change SVG maps (what program you using for that?). About occupation/recognition, please read this: http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/517198/Treaty-of-Saint-Germain „Treaty of Saint-Germain, (1919), treaty concluding World War I and signed by representatives of Austria on one side and the Allied Powers on the other. It was signed at Saint-Germain-en-Laye, near Paris, on Sept. 10, 1919, and came into force on July 16, 1920. The treaty officially registered the breakup of the Habsburg empire, recognizing the independence of Czechoslovakia, Poland, Hungary, and the Kingdom of the Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes (Yugoslavia) and ceding eastern Galicia, Trento, southern Tirol, Trieste, and Istria.“ So, this is the day when, both, Yugoslavia and Hungary were recognized and text say that the breakup of the Habsburg empire was REGISTERED by this treaty, but there is no evidence that parts of Yugoslavia were regarded as an occupied Austro-Hungarian territory before this Treaty and it is also not correct that they were under Yugoslav military administration. Administration was completelly civilian in all parts of Yugoslavia that formerly belonged to Habsburg Monarchy. In fact, I have here two interesting map from 1919: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/9d/Europe_map_1919.jpg - it is published by the London Geographical Institute and it show situation before Treaty-of-Saint-Germain (or before official recognition of Yugoslavia and Hungary). Sure, borders presented in that map are rather an assumption how final borders will look than a presentation of actual state control (Hungarian-Yugoslav border in that map is in fact illustration of one of the proposals how this border should look, presented in a Paris Peace Conference), but this map illustrates that de facto existence of both Yugoslavia and Hungary was more-less recognized and more-less in those borders that they controled. Furthermore, term occupation usually refer to a case where forces of one country are occupying part of another and, due to this definition, it would not be wrong to say that Serbian forces occupied parts pf A-H in late 1918, but after creation of Yugoslavia we do not have any more an foreign country that occupy part of another. Yugoslavia was a new country that was created by the people who were citizens of A-H and therefore it was successor state of A-H, not an foreign occupying power. Finally, we discussing here an map that show Hungarian Soviet Republic which in this time had absolutelly same status as Yugoslavia and whose proclaimed independence was also violation of de jure existence of Austria-Hungary, so if Yugoslavia was an occupier on A-H soil then Hungarian Soviet Republic was occupier too (it is nothing but POV to use word occupation for Yugoslavia and not for Hungarian Soviet Republic – either both were occupiers either both were not). Also note that in Serbian historical book is usually used word liberation to designate unification of former A-H territories with Serbia, and I am not asking that this word is used in your map – I am simply asking that neutral word control is used, which was also by Hungarian author of originall map. So, thank you for changing some things due to my proposal, but you still have to change 2 things: 1. Replace term occupation with term control, and 2. Please paint map background into white because if SVG map without colored background is saved into my computer as PNG then backgroud apper completelly black and letters from map legend are not readable at all. Or you can tell me which program are you using for SVG maps so I can change file by myself. 123iti (talk) 13:59, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
ok, I changed some things in a map, including some colors and descriptions (seems that you did not used accurate description for Slovakia area too, since according to original map, it is an area recaptured by Hungarian Soviet Republic in May-June 1919). Please check are all Spanish descriptions there correct in my map version (google translate do not always provide accurate translations). Also, I think that I corrected problem with black color in PNG file save – you should always create an backgroud layer colored in white so that SVG image can have white background. 123iti (talk) 23:31, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
Just two things: 1. Did you tried to save your SVG map as PNG to see how that file looks? It does not have black background on your computer or what? Yes, Wikipedia do adds the white to the image, but only on the web. Once saved into computer that white became black. Is it possible to create white backgroung in SVG map at all? 2. Blue color that you choose is too dark and names of Zagreb of Subotica are very hard to be read on so dark background. I just tried to improve this image, but I will not change it any more. So, would you change what I proposed is up to you. I have to do some other things, thought. 123iti (talk) 00:16, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

Just one more comment about your SVG maps. I know that I am booring already, but I see that you uploaded many maps and I just want to suggest how you can improve them. The SVG/PNG question is relevant here because Wikimedia offer to users that they can download SVG files in 4 different sizes of PNG (notice description „This image rendered as PNG in other sizes: 200px, 500px, 1000px, 2000px.“ below your SVG maps), and by my understanding of that, SVG files should look good when downloaded in both offered image formats (SVG and PNG). Otherwise, why would Wikimedia offer downloading in PNG format at all? I also always download SVG images in PNG format because SVG images cannot be used by some popular image viewer programs such is ACDSee. If you do not use white background in your SVG maps then they do not look good in PNG format. 123iti (talk) 13:44, 26 December 2010 (UTC)

Picture Kurt Schuschnigg[edit]

Hello, sry to be so late, but I detected your username only minutes ago. I would superurgently need the permission to use the picture http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:KurtVonSchuschnigg1936.jpg for all editions of the publication "Wir vom Jahrgang 1932". Could you be so kind to grant me that by sending an email to der@textmaker.at? I would very much appreciate it.

Thx so much for your quick response (in fact, I would need it within hours, I´m really sorry) Best regards Helmuth Santler

Martin H. (talk) 23:29, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

There is much wrong with your uploads to Robert Sennecke now. Most photos are not created by him but distributed by his company. Another big problem is that the date is often wrong. That french agency is also an redistributor only, for example File:EduardBernstein1932.jpeg was published in 1932 (at Bernsteins death most likely), but not taken in 1932. It circulated in 1929 already. --Martin H. (talk) 23:39, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

in short: I just looked again. Category:Photographs by Robert Sennecke is 90% wrong in author and date. Certainly Sennecke not made a photo of Chiang Kai-shek in 1933, thats plain nonsense. I dont know where to start with this uploads, its horrible. --Martin H. (talk) 23:44, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:PactoDeNoAgresiónSoviéticoPolaco23121932.jpeg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. Kingdom of Prilep[edit]

Hi, I just uploaded new improved version of this file: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Kingdom_of_Prilep.png

Perhaps you can upload improved version of your derivative file as well: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:ReinoDePrilepSigloXIV.svg

That file is derivative version of older version of this map that was created by me: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Central_balkans_1373_1395.png However, the old version was not of very good quality and I think that derivative versions of this file should match the current quality of original image. PANONIAN (talk) 13:39, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

OK, good job. I can easily translate map into Spanish, but I am not good with SVG maps drawing. PANONIAN (talk) 21:40, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

Hi again. Well, I have Inkscape installed, but I do not find it easy to use. I guess if someone uses Photoshop for so long like me, it is hard to work with Inkscape because controls there are not even similar to those in Photoshop. Anyway, I just uploaded an improved version of this map as well: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Serbia1817.png Perhaps you can upload improved svg version too: http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Serbia1817.svg&page=1 PANONIAN (talk) 22:32, 14 October 2012 (UTC)

Вооруженное востание в Петрограде.png
Green arrow.svgsome labels can be added
the green arrow is not in the image
this text has a white background
text with no background, they went that a wayArrows-move.png
some labels for a legend
can go in the space here, they are text and easy
to change just need the setup for the first map,
and then it's easy for every language to be done
with just the wikipedia edit window alone.
oh and you can add links too,
click here to view the code
stuff that looks like guns
lots of arrowsText direction ClockOut.svg
a translation to the
local language goes here

this is the kind of thing that I mean, if we ask for help at the help desk or someone who knows lots about overlay, it's possible to finish the setting up of this one image, then to change the text you just edit and search and replace the code here on the actual page, not in the image which stays the same. So the one image is good on all wikipedias and the text is just search and replace. Plus, it's easy to add little animations over the top of it, flames, tanks, galloping horses, whatever, they can be added later or those factory symbols could be changed if you like, that kind of thing.

the alternative, adding text to every version of the svg would make it harsh to let people edit the text in their local language or fix incorrect wording. Penyulap 13:16, 13 February 2013 (UTC)

I'd like to help on this one, would you like to ask about on the helpdesk for help translating the labels if I do the placement on the map ? Penyulap 06:59, 15 February 2013 (UTC)

I have "recut" the image and done a little bit (but not too much) to fix the perspective without (I hope) diminishing how the detail looks at 100%. If you like any of the earlier versions better, however, feel free to revert to them. Centpacrr (talk) 01:31, 13 June 2013 (UTC)

Hi there, you might be interested in the fact that I updated my File:Rzeczpospolita 1938.svg map. You made a derivative of it for the Spanish wiki (File:Rzeczpospolita 1939 ES.svg), so that one could be updated as well. BTW, thanks for translating it :) Not that there were that many Spanish names for towns in our part of the world :) Halibutt (talk) 20:21, 7 August 2013 (UTC)

Hello, I have just uploaded a new version based on the current one of the original map. There are indeed not many Spanish names for localities in this area but at least I wanted to have a version that showed the ones that do (mainly capital cities and a few others). Thanks for uploading File:FuneralDeAlejandroIDeYugoslavia--P01471.034.jpeg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the OTRS system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. Thank you.

hello & suggestion[edit]

Hello! I found your user page very entertaining! I don't have any complaints, only compliments, and a bit of info.

I noticed that back in Sept 2012 you uploaded several wonderful images of the Bulgarian royal family from a 1913 book about Tsar Ferdinand that you found on archive.org.

For example, File:EudoxiaKyrilBorisYNadejdaHijosDeFernandoDeBulgaria--czarferdinandhis00macduoft.jpg. with a source of http://archive.org/details/czarferdinandhis00macduoft .

I was just wondering, were you aware that if you look at the complete file list for that book (which you can access by clicking on the link after "all files" on the left), you can access the original scanned page images? They are in the file czarferdinandhis00macduoft_orig_jp2.tar , an archive file of the original jp2 images. These images are probably much higher resolution than the images you uploaded.

Just thought you might find this interesting for future reference. You have contributed so much to Commons, and I agree with your judgment of those who appoint themselves copyright/source/status police (who are siblings, I think, of the self-appointed non-notability and source/citation police on en-wiki). Cheers! Laura1822 (talk) 23:32, 6 January 2014 (UTC)

Ugh, I just took a look at the original page images and found the one for the image I referenced above, and while it's much higher resolution (1484 x 1972 when cropped) it's not really any clearer. The images in this particular book aren't printed as photographs but with low-res dots like in a newspaper, so the pattern is obvious even when not at full resolution. How annoying. Sorry to bother you! Laura1822 (talk) 23:46, 6 January 2014 (UTC)
Hello, no problem at all! I was not aware these images were there and it may be worthwhile uploading those instead of the ones I originally did (most likely by getting a copy from the online book itself, I cannot remember any more). As far as I can remember, these scans in archive.org (specially those paid by Google) tend to give priority to getting a clear text, not good reproductions of the images. I suppose if one is interested in one image in particular this could be requested here (noth sure though, I have never tried it myself)... But I do upload images from these books as I know of no better alternatives. Regards.--Rowanwindwhistler (talk) 07:45, 7 January 2014 (UTC)

Stop[edit]

I made an administrative action. I give a cause why I have done it. You have done a rollback two times. One time more and I see it as vandalism. If you think, I have done it incorrect, ask for a second opinion. But never again di a rollback! Maybe I am not right - but we don't do a game here. And I am elected as an admin to decide such requests! Marcus Cyron (talk) 22:40, 15 March 2014 (UTC)

You are already being reported. You did it wrong and you are the one breaking the files. The request will be added back. I do not care who you are.--Rowanwindwhistler (talk) 22:42, 15 March 2014 (UTC)

Commons:Administrators'_noticeboard/Vandalism#User:Rowanwindwhistler. If you don't want to hear. Marcus Cyron (talk) 23:02, 15 March 2014 (UTC)

You are the one that does not want to hear. You wrongly renamed the files, you reject the restoration of their names, you delete my requests and you do not seem to know the criteria as you add reasons that contradict the rules. Your vandalism has been reported. My requests will remain in place, if you keep removing them, I will keep adding them back.--Rowanwindwhistler (talk) 23:05, 15 March 2014 (UTC)
If you disagree with a decision of another editor, even an admin, the correct move is not to edit-war with that user, it is to take it to a third party using dispute resolution. In particular, rolback is only to be used for obvious vandalism and if you abuse it again, I will remove it from you, without prejudice to you being blocked for edit-warring. Rodhullandemu (talk) 23:18, 15 March 2014 (UTC)
I consider your unjustified removal of my request as vandalism. None of your reasons meet the 7 rules that justify a renaming, hence the removal of my request is unwarranted and the permanent removal I consider vandalism. If you insist in deleting my request I will have no choice but to ask for your admin category to be removed as undeserved.--Rowanwindwhistler (talk) 23:24, 15 March 2014 (UTC)
I must apologize for my last not as it was not directed to you, user Rodhullandemu, but to user Marcus Cyron. My sincere apologies. However, I have to disagree, an admin cannot arbitrarily (without proper reasons) use his power to back his personal point of view.--Rowanwindwhistler (talk) 23:30, 15 March 2014 (UTC)
