Welcome to Wikimedia Commons, Eethove!

Hi Eethove,
there are some potential problems with the "additional conditions" that you put into the description of your uploads. Your conditions seem to conflict with the CC license:

  • File:College of the Redwoods Cloudscape After Rain.jpg "This piece may be copied/printed with citation" - 1) what do you mean by "citation"? do you mean attribution/crediting or something else? 2) does "copied/printed" include offering this image on other websites (other than Commons)?
  • File:Bridge Scream.jpg "May be copied and printed to your heart's content so long as its origins are cited" - again, what do you mean by "its origins are cited"? attribution is required by the license. You can recommend for a special form of credit, but you cannot request it, as of Creative Commons licenses.
  • File:Sunset at College of the Redwoods Quad.jpg "copying and printing are fine so long as they are cited and no profits are made from them" - if this image cannot be used for commercial purposes (including such making profits) and may even be sold by itself, than you should request its deletion from Commons as we require all uploads to be free for commercial use.
  • File:And Jesus Came Down From Mount Sinai Bringing with him the Ten Plagues, Abstinence Being One of Them.jpg "so long as work is cited and profits are either not made or are given to me ; )" - same as above, if not free for commercial use, it will be deleted. If the content of the permission entry was meant as a joke, please take note that this is not the right place for that.

Cheers. --Túrelio (talk) 15:04, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Eethove!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.
